Cake Pop- Review and C0NTEST

There is a craze making the circuits called “cake pops”. These are cake in the shape of balls, about the size of donut holes. These cake balls are then dipped in frosting/chocolate/anything then covered in some sprinkles, really, lol. It sounds simple and nothing special- but they are really quite good! Easy to make means BONUS!

Another thing you learn quite quickly is, without the proper equipment they are very difficult to make.
In steps the proper equipment, the Nostalgia Electrics Cake Pop and Donut Hole Bakery. This machine is about the size of a waffle maker and works in a similar manner. Make dough, put into designated areas, close machine, let it sit for a certain amount of time then presto! Cake balls.

We gave this machine a try last night and found it to work just as promised. I will say I cheated a bit and did some research online before trying this out. The instruction booklet has recipes in it for from scratch cake mix, unfortunately we did not have baking powder, so I had to improvise a bit with boxed cake mix. I know, its not the same the recipe cake is a million times better. Little Man wanted cake balls and I wanted to try out my new gadget. After some googling and research I found a recipe which used any cake mix and would make perfect cake balls. It is as follows:

2 cups cake mix.
4 tablespoons melted butter
1 egg
1/2 cup water
mix these up pretty well, don’t over do it, if it is lumpy you are in good shape.

Take this batter and put it into a zipper plastic baggie and close it.
Start up the cake pop maker. Let it warm up as per the directions. Then cut a bottom corner of the bag off. This give you good control over the batter going where you want it to. Fill each compartment to almost the top then close the cake pop maker. These should cook for about 4 /12 mins to 5 mins.

He didn’t want a stick. What can ya do!

Each cake mix varies to keep an eye on them. You want to be able to poke them with a stick and it come clean, without burning on the outside, so start checking at around 4 mins. then every 30 seconds from there. After the first batch you will have a good idea of how long to cook them for.

Then you have nice round cake balls to do what you wish with. Little Man liked them covered with chocolate syrup and sprinkles.
This Cake pop maker works perfect. I suggest getting comfortable with a recipe and being well prepared before plugging it in. Once the balls start cooking it is only minutes before they are done.
I can’t wait to try the donut hole recipe. That will be after our next trip to the supermarket and grabbing some baking powder. 🙂
