Travel photos do things to you, don’t they? They take you away, bring you back into a happy memory- or inspire you to see a new place or culture.
Jessie Voigts of Wandering Educators invited me to take part in in HostelBookers 7 Super Shots – where each travel blogger shares 7 of their favorite shots with you all. Now- you are getting stuck with what I have (since losing some from my hurricane experience recently, LOL) but whatever- travel is travel, and it’s all wonderful.
Come dream of far off (or maybe not so far off) places with me, and plan for your next getaway!
A photo that…takes my breath away…
It’s the Taj Mahal- what else can I say? The beauty of the Taj took my breath away- literally- and brought tears to my eyes. By now I think you know I am not an overly emotional, cry at the sunset type of girl. But this was the most beautiful (man made) thing I have ever seen, hands down. I wasn’t expecting it to be so moving, and so it took me by surprise. It wasn’t even the “reason” I went to India- just a nice perk! But the Taj is a must see- go!
A photo that…makes me laugh or smile…
This was the first time these orphanage kids in Eastern Europe had ever played with bubbles. You all know by now that I spent a lot of time volunteering in orphanages, and it never ceased to amaze me at the things that would just amaze THEM. In other ways, the kids were just so grown up….
A photo that…makes me dream…
A lazy day, this picture was taken looking up from my beach chair in the Dominican Republic. Nothing fancy- but it sure does make me dream……
A photo that…makes me think…
This is taken at the tomb and college of Aladdin (yes, that guy- like Disney, but real) in Qutab. I love this photo, because through the roof you can see the upper stories of the Qutb Minar, which are amazing white marble and sandstone. Along with the burial site, this is also the site of many monuments, such as the victory tower. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
A photo that…makes your mouth water
Taken in Mexico City…and if your mouth isn’t watering, we are no longer friends, LOL.
Nothing beats authentic local food, does it?
A photo that…tells a story
I imagine this father is taking his daughters to school- but my, my….what a way to do it! 3 People on a tiny, tiny motorcycle- and why does dad get the only helmet, I ask? LOL.
A photo that…I am most proud of
Maybe it’s not my best photo- I don’t think it is, honestly- but it’s a favorite. It’s a mix of ancient (the Jam’at Khanah tomb and mosque) and modern- look at the phone lines running everywhere. It’s art and history- and yet below is just a mess- there are wild dogs and garbage everywhere. The little monkey who looks at me, with his friend “Rodin’s Thinker” monkey in the background….I just love this picture. Is it wonderful? Maybe no. But to me? It brings back so much and reminds me why I love to travel.
