Heelys – The Skating Sneaker

Heelys are the nifty shoes which act as two shoes in one. One shoe is a stylish, skater-type sneaker that is comfortable and modern. The other type of shoe is a skate. There is a pop in/out wheel in the heel which makes your trek a little quicker and more interesting. The wheel lets you roll around, grind, stall, even use ramps and do vertical tricks. The more confident and time you spend with the shoes the more tricks you can pull off.

The newest innovation from Heelys is the Nano. The Nano is a small foot sized board which lets the wearer, carve, cut and zip around using one foot as a rudder and the other as an engine. There are a ton of neat tricks which are limited only by ability and creativity. Check out some of the videos. An important note with these shoes as well as with any wheeled outdoor activity- I would suggest pads and a helmet. These shoes aren’t a direct danger, but skating around and doing tricks is inherently dangerous so please be safe.

As of now Little Man likes the shoes, but isn’t confident enough to try out the wheels for that long, and he wants to hold my hand while he glides along. Which is fine in my book, pushing him to do something he doesn’t want to will only push him away. Let him find his own courage and timing.
