Have Yoga Mat, Will Travel

One of the great things about yoga is that you can do it anytime, anywhere, provided you have your yoga mat. Technically, you can do it without a yoga mat, but when you’re contorting yourself on your knees, trust me, you’ll want the support of a mat. Fortunately, mats are very portable and last for years. They can be a bit pricey, but unless you’re saving up for a computer, matching initial necklaces, or are being hounded by your student loan creditors, you can probably afford one. A yoga mat is a sound investment, with immeasurable benefits for your mind and body.

Even if you’re on a road trip, far from a gym or a treadmill, roll out your yoga mat on the shoulder of the freeway and get in some backbends, releasing all those pent-up toxins from your spine—and, some say, cleansing your chakras. In the middle of the night, if you’re having trouble sleeping, bust out a half-tortoise pose and balance out your sleep-wake cycles. This pose is also good in the middle of the workday, when the stress is getting to you. A fresh surge of oxygenated blood to the brain gives you a nice perspective on the rest of the day.

Yoga is an ancient form of physical meditation with thousands of forms. There are some core postures, like [Read more…]

WAHM Home Office Design Tips

This is for all the work-at-home moms out there that are spreading their work hither and yon
throughout the household as they follow their kids around all day long: stop using your home as an
office! Okay, so if you’re working from home you might not think you have much choice, but the truth is
that you walk a fine line when you commingle your work with your family. And ultimately, you risk failing
at both pursuits if you don’t learn to divide them into two separate spheres. Your work suffers when
you’re distracted by kids, errands, and a house that needs cleaning, and your kids suffer when your
attention is split between them and your job. So do yourself a favor and set up a home office (with set,
but flexible hours). Here are a few design tips that will help you make the most of your work space.

1. Pick your paint. Believe it or not, the paint color you choose for your office could make a big
difference in how much work you get done in there. Even if you’re not into feng shui, you
probably like certain colors better than others because of the way they make you feel. So there
are two ways you can go. If your world is in chaos most of the time, you might want to go with
soft neutral shades or pastel colors (blues are especially nice) to calm you so that you can focus
on your work. But if you need some energy and inspiration, choose a bold and saturated color
that speaks to you. Warm tones like reds, oranges, and pinks will brighten your space and get
your creative juices flowing.

2. Furnish accordingly. Most people use the smallest room in the house for the office, which
means you will necessarily have to choose smaller furnishings. By going with modern, modular
pieces you can ensure that everything fits (and fits together). As [Read more…]

What’s new for Christmas? THOR!!!!

For my little guy, Thor is “the man” at the moment (and by the way- Thor is the guy who sings “Lightning Crashes” don’t ya know? LOL It’s totally not the band Live). No, of course I didn’t let him watch the movie- that’s a little too old for him- but he loves Marvel and action heroes, so Thor is awesome! And since mommy has been inundating him with myths and legends since birth, and daddy is a comic-geek, he was a sure thing to love these new fun Thor toys!

(Approximate Retail Price: $19.99 & $7.99; Ages: 5 & up)
Kids can now pretend to be their favorite Asgardian and summon the power of THOR! Hasbro’s THOR LIGHTNING HAMMER delivers a great role-play experience, allowing fans to recreate the on-screen action of the upcoming film, THOR. The replica of THOR’S signature weapon is fully equipped with electronic battle sounds and a launching projectile. Requires three “AAA” batteries, included.

Helping to complete the THOR role-play experience is Hasbro’s THOR HELMET. Styled after the Asgardian’s iconic wing-tipped helmet, the role-play toy lets kids pretend to be the mighty hero.

For real, how cool, right? Yeah- Thor was worn for quite some time- and we also had to bring our little Thor action figure as well. Because you can’t be some wacko kid in a helmet- you also need to have a toy to carry about as well. 😛

Bring Back Romance: Renew Your Wedding Vows

Long-term relationships are amazing because they allow you to know and love another person deeply
and enduringly while developing a lifestyle that is comfortable and familiar. Unfortunately, most people
that have been together for a while eventually start to take one another for granted. This is especially
common when work, children, or other distractions take precedence over the relationship. So if you
wake up one day and wonder what happened to the romance in your life, perhaps it’s time to remind
yourself of why you fell in love in the first place and recount the promises you made the day you got
married. In short, you may want to consider renewing your wedding vows.

There are several reasons why a couple might want to recommit to one another. They could be so
head-over-heels in love that they want everyone to know it…again. Or perhaps they’ve suffered a split
and were able to work things out, so they’ve decided to renew their vows as a way to commemorate
their new commitment to making their marriage a success. But if you’ve simply been plugging along
with your daily life, never noticing that the romance was fading away, then you are equally in need of a
reboot, and a renewal ceremony is a great way to get it.

The nice thing about deciding to renew your vows is that you will probably enjoy the day a lot more than
the first time around. It’s not that weddings aren’t wonderful, but the truth is that most people are so
nervous on their special day that they can’t really take the time to appreciate the beauty and gravity of
the ceremony. [Read more…]
