Calico Critters- Fun Kids Toy

Did you have Calico Critters when you were a kid?  I did- I think I had rabbits.  Tan ones.  I saw Calico Critters in Toys R Us a few months ago, and thought that my kids would like them, maybe for the holidays.  How cute are they?  As you know, Little Man loves things that are “mommy and baby” or that go in sets- so he loved playing with these, as did Kamikaze.

The clothing is a little bit hard to get on the Critters, but other then that- playtime has been fun!  The set comes with a little toy for the baby bear, which my son particularly likes (Aw, mommy!  The baby gets a toy!)
Kamikaze is pretty good with doll clothes, so she was able to get them on and off without too much trouble.  Little Man, at barely four, not so much.   They both loved that it came with a whole array of fun things to do.

Includes: Margaret and Halley critters, 2 dresses, 2 mannequins, hat, handbag, hand mirror, 2 headbands, baby toy and wall portrait

Since it had all these fun items that came with the Calico Critters Margaret and Halley’s Shop Play Set, it made for a fun playtime immediately, and they also are the same size as lots of other toys, so they will fit into some other playsets, carriages, cars, busses, etc- so your child can play with them in toys they already have, too.  For example- Little put Baby Halley into a little stroller and had Mommy Margaret push her around, and then they took the bus to the Farmer’s Market and to ride a pony.

Here is a little product description as well-

“Mother Margaret and Baby Halley go shopping with the Calico Critters Margaret and Halley’s Dress Shop Play Set! The Calico Critters Dress Shop Play Set includes the Critters Margaret and Halley, as they shop for dresses for the special events in Cloverleaf Corners! To help them find something fancy to wear, the Calico Critters Margaret and Halley’s Dress Shop Play Set includes 2 dresses, 2 mannequins, hat, handbag, hand mirror, 2 headbands, wall portrait and baby toy for awesome pretend play! Margaret and Halley will be dressed to impress when they are done!”
This is a fun toy, and would be a hit with younger kids of either gender (but not babies! The parts are too small) or pretty much any girl, in my opinion.  My son is 4 and loves to play mommy and baby, and also loves to play with animals, so I think its great for boys who are still young or who like gentle play as well.  Boys do have that loving, nurturing side of them as well, which we can forget.  It’s great to let them develop that if they choose to.

You can order Calico Critters at Growing Tree Toys – there is even an option for gift wrap if you are sending a holiday or birthday present.  Feel free to follow them on Facebook and Twitter for updates- and you can also sign up for Growing Trees Toys email updates.  Have fun shopping  🙂

New Facebook- How to see Posts from your Favorite Bloggers! (Cough) LOL

I spent the past few days trying to figure out how to “fix” this problem, that you guys can’t see my posts now.  Which is a MAJOR bummer- and then I came across this wonderful post from Deals 4 Dummies– Jeana said I could cross post, since I am a major dope and would never have been able to explain it so well- THANKS JEANA!!  Of course, her page is cited- so if you want to see Have Sippy Will Travel’s posts, just look for that page where it says Deals 4 Dummies.  If you are a fan for BOTH pages- do them both and you will see them all  🙂

I can’t wait to have you back and seeing my posts.  I hope this helps!

Hi all! So I’m sure you all have noticed the recent Facebook changes. I really didn’t think much about them until I realized that today, I had been blogging my little heart out and that I haven’t gotten very much reaction from you guys. I had a room full of crickets.  And it didn’t feel nice :(
I started to get a little sad, and then I realized that many of you have probably been MISSING all the deals I have been posting lately because of those new Facebook changes!!  Ack!!  What in the world am I doing slaving away at my computer all day finding you deals and freebies if you are going to MISS them?!??!
If you want to make sure you aren’t missing out on my deal feed on Facebook, I need you guys to do something for me really quick.
Don’t worry – it won’t hurt :)

  1. In Facebook, click on the down arrow in the upper right hand corner (next to your name) and choose “Account Settings”.
  2. Now choose “notifications” on the left side menu.
  3. UNCHECK the “email frequency”.  You want it to be BLANK like the picture above. (thanks, Freebie Corner)
  4. Now, go to your Facebook Home Page
  5. In that center column is your news feed.  I need you to scroll down until you find one from me.  It doesn’t matter which one, just find one.
  6. Now hover your mouse over the top right corner until this little blue arrow appears.  Click it and choose the first option “Mark as Top Story“.

Ok so what you have just done is told Facebook

  1. Leave my notifications alone and show me everything
  2. HEY – I want to see my deals from Crazy Coupon Mommy – Quit hiding them from me!!!

So from now on, you should start to see the deals again.  Supposedly FB “learns” what you like by your actions so this may take a while to get through.  If you want to make sure it happens faster – then do this every time you see a post from me and that will make sure they get the hint!!
Another way to make sure you never miss a deal from your favorite coupon blogs on Facebook is to Make a List. This is a new feature and my friend over at My CNY Mommy made a great video tutorial on how to do it – have a looksey!

#Win Beautiful Miche Handbag- Review and #Contest

I think that I, like most women, take immense pleasure in handbags. I don’t know what it is about a really great purse that just “does” it for me (and so many others!) but, doesn’t a great bag just thrill you?
Miche Bags are unlike any other. They are a basic bag with interchangeable shells, that you can customize for any outfit. The shoes and the purse really “make” or break the outfit, so a fab handbag is a MUST when you are dressing to impress, heading out to an interview, or just want to look great.

It’s fun and easy to customize your bag, and choose the shells (the part that shows) that you like best. You choose what size bag you want, then pick the shells you like best. And even better? If you get new shoes (WHEN you get new shoes!) you can pick up a few new shells to match! Going to a wedding, and want to match that bridesmaid dress, or cocktail attire? No prob! Switch the shell, easy peasy.

Here is how it works-

Please excuse the mess- I made this video the day before I left for Ohio- Pre-Hurricane, LOL.  I let my husband make the video, and he didn’t even try to keep the mess out, Le Sigh.  You know how packing is.

You can buy your bags HERE, and you can enter to win one standard bag and shell below. Here is how to enter!

Review and #Giveaway from Educational Insights- not to be missed for parents and teachers :)

As a Pre-K teacher, there are some things I just take real pleasure in reviewing and writing up. Educational Insights is such a great company, making great (and fun!) educational toys and games, that I own more of their products then I could ever review. So lets start with some of their most fabulous and fun items, that have been delighting kids for some time, and now have been giving my Pre-K kids some educational enjoyment 🙂

Inside Out ™ Lenticular Human Body Poster
A seriously awesome poster for any science fan (I have one on my door in my room)! Don’t look away! A magical way to present the carious layers of the human body, the Lenticular Human Body Poster shifts from two kids to their skeletal systems, muscular systems, and organs. You won’t believe your eyes! Grades 1+/Ages 6+

Our Human Body week is not here yet- but you can be sure I will be bringing this in with me!

Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel Game
Your forest friends are hungry and they need your help! Spin the spinner, squeeze the matching colored acorn with your Squirrel Squeezers, and place it into your log. Be the first to your log with delicious acorns and you win! You could also spin “pick an acorn,” “steal an acorn,” or “lose an acorn,” so be strategic, little squirrel!
The kids had a great time with this game- they still are not bored with it, and the tweezers improve dexterity.  The rules are easy to explain and implement (and to understand!) so the kids can have fun and n ot be frustrated.

The perfect first microscope! Great for introducing scientific observation.
·  Features a dial children can turn to listen to fun facts about what they’re seeing on the slides
·  Challenges children to remember what they’ve learned in an electronic quiz game
·  Includes 12 prepared slides of common insects
·  Magnifies 5x and provides a light for easy, close-up viewing
·  Requires 3 C batteries, not included

Ages 5+/ Grades K+

The kids for realsies love this!   They can’t get enough, and I had to create a schedule for them to all get turns without driving me insane, LOL.  WOW is bug week going to be great!

Playfoam

The ONLY no-mess creativity substance for preschoolers!

Preschoolers are free to express their creativity — with no mess to clean up afterward! Just squish up the Playfoam®, shape it however you like, squash it back down, and start all over again. Playfoam® never dries out so the creativity never ends — and the secret no-stick formula means you can take it anywhere for creative fun on the go!

It does not dry out, no matter how long you leave it uncovered someplace.  I am going on nearly a month uncovered in the stockroom at the Pre-K- and it is still just fine.  Side note?  My son ate some- and I can tell you for sure it’s non-toxic.  Ugh.  First thing he ever ate that WASN’T food, LOL.

Educational Insights is currently giving away $100 EducationalInsights.com gift cards to one lucky person every weekday.   The offer is featured on our website (www.educationalinsights.com) and on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/educationalinsights) under the “WIN!” tab.

One of you will win some from Educational Insights!

Boy Scouts

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Boy Scouts of America for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
We all know who the Boy Scouts of America are.  Or at least we think we know what they are.  When was the last time you actually attended a meeting.  For me it was with my little brothers, and it was forever ago.  But I will admit we will be looking into Boy Scouts once Little Man gets big enough.  There are a few simple reasons for this.  Community and self respect, given the boy scouts history of community involvement and social interaction in a friendly nurturing environment that teaches children life skills and values.
The Cub Scouts start at age 7 or first grad right on through fifth grad or age 10.  The cub scouts emphasis environment awareness as well as teamwork and manual dexterity.  Next up is Boy Scouts, ages 11 through 17,  the boy scouts help kids learn how to do things for themselves, be self reliant as well as how to prove themselves an integral member of a  group.  And now we have Venturers who are between the ages of 14 to 20.  yes these are the older ‘kids’ but they get to do older ‘kid’ stuff, like rock climbing, white water rafting and zip line riding.  Pretty cool if you ask me.
No matter what age your little guy is, little girls have the girl scouts, Boy Scouts is a nice way to socialize, individualize, and also give a bit more of those morals that seem to be slowly slipping away from our children day by day.
