When you are getting a new furry buddy for the house, there are many things to think about. Everyone thinks of food, toys, treats, a leash, etc. Something important to remember is a crate or carry container for your new fur buddy. Crates are a great investment because they can keep your dog safe, keep them from getting too anxious when you are away, and keep your destructive little buddy from getting at those new speakers.  Or spite pooping on the bed.  You know.  Fun stuff.

Sometimes mistakes happen, and they are unavoidable. Maybe you dropped a glass, which of course flew everywhere- so how do you keep your dog out of the room while cleaning up and trying not to cut yourself at the same time? That would be another good reason for a crate. Contain your little buddy and clean away.   You can also use a carrier for trips to the vet, the groomer, and road trips.  (For bigger dogs, you will need a seat belt vest or the like, unless you have room for a very large crate.)

Natural Dog Bed from Savvy Rest

Disclosure- We received the below in order to facilitate this review.  All opinions are our own and honest.  For more, see “I Disclose”.

Our dog Cooper is a bit of a bum.  He likes to lounge around all day, all over the place.  He’s not, however, a huge fan of lying of the floor- not his favorite.  He likes to be wherever we are, of course.  I don’t like him on the couch or in the bed, so what’s the next best thing?  A doggie bed of his own, of course.

pic6We recently got him the Natural Dog Bed from Savvy Rest.  It’s really a nice bed- I’m sort of jealous of it, LOL.  Super soft and smushy, it comes it various sizes and two bedding fill options.

About the Natural Dog Bed

The Savvy Doggy™ supports your pooch in pure comfort. Organic cotton twill surrounds a sturdy core of pressure-relieving, snooze-inducing natural latex. Choose formed or shredded fill.

As many of you know, we recently got a new addition to the house a 2.5 year old dog named “Cooper”.  Rescued from a shelter in NYC, he has been a good fit for our household, and we are enjoying him. Many of you know that we are also avid animal “foster parents”, and usually have a critter or two (or more) that we are fostering for a local shelter or rescue organization.  There just aren’t enough homes to go around, and too many animals are over-bred.  Cooper was in a high kill shelter, where his days were numbered.  As a matter of fact, there is a group that is pretty active trying to get pets out of there as fast as possible, and I’m sorry to say that many of the dogs we met while we were there adopting Cooper were put to sleep that same week, due to running out of room.  It broke my heart- sweet dogs, whose lives were cut short because no one took the time to find them good homes and just dumped them at a high kill shelter, or in the street where they were found wandering, or a million other sad stories.   The worst part is that it just didn’t need to happen. As the bumper sticker on my car says, “Don’t Buy Love- Rescue It!”

The Shelter Pet Project

Get true, unconditional, fierce, unforgettable love through shelter pet adoption!

Each year approximately 3-4 million pets are adopted from shelter and rescue groups, but 2.4 million healthy and treatable pets still need our help to find a home each year. The Shelter Pet Project is a collaborative effort between The Humane Society of the United States, Maddie’s Fund®, and the Ad Council.

The goal of The Shelter Pet Project is to make shelters and rescue groups the first place people turn when looking to get a new pet.

Win a Wash ‘n Zip Dog Bed

I am sure by now you have all seen about a zillion photos of our newest addition, Cooper.  Cooper is new, 2 and a half years old, and hails from NYC. He’s had a rough start, coming to us with a previously undiagnosed illness (fun surprise there!) but is settling in.

Cooper likes to snuggle.  He is above laying on the floor- I can tell you I have never seen him sit on a hardwood, laminate, or tile floor- he will condescend to sitting on the carpet, but he won’t lay there.  For a shelter dog, he sure is persnickety!

Cooper thinks he needs to be on the couch if we are- which is tricky, because there’s not a whole lot of room if we are already on the couch. If it’s just one person, sure, or me and the kiddo.  But not if there’s more.  Enter the new Wash ‘n Zip dog bed.

The bed in it’s smallest size.

The Wash’nZip Pet Bed is made of sheets of batting which are sewn into the outer seams and box stitched.  This assures that the interior filling won’t shift and the dog bed will always hold its’ shape, no matter which size you fold it into (you can make it a few sizes, which is pretty cool).  You can double it over and make it a small mat, open it up and make it full size, or unzip it and it becomes a blanket or a couch or carseat cover.

A Dog’s Life

Say hello to my little friend!  No, really.

This is Cooper Cthulhu– can you guess who named him?  You got it.  Not me.

He’s a 2.5 year old boy who hails from NYC.  He seems pretty chill so far, and really, really likes toys.  Like, a lot a lot a lot.  He thinks he needs to be in my lap when I’m typing, which can be a challenge for both of us.  Don’t tell him he’s not a lap-dog, he won’t believe you.

Our dog is a very big part of our family. We aren’t necessarily big football people, but we do enjoy watching the SuperBowl. But what’s even better is the Puppy Bowl, my girls love to watch the dogs and really enjoy it. Of course, we need to cherish Brutus as we watch the puppy bowl as well :). What better way to enjoy time with our lovable dog than to give him some special new items.

I know that Brutus doesn’t really watch T.V., but he sure does enjoy watching/hearing other dogs.

Share Your Love at the Valentine’s Day – Adopt an Abandoned Puppy

What are you doing for Valentine’s Day?  Do you have a significant other that you are planning to spend it with?  Maybe you are planning on ‘surprising’ them with the traditional dinner, chocolate, and flowers?  Why not think outside the box this year?  Make it extra special.  Give someone a bundle of furry, unconditional love.  Adopt a puppy.  It truly is the gift of love that keeps on giving.

There are so many puppies in need of a loving home.  Every day, new puppies arrive on the doorsteps of the growing number of No-Kill shelters throughout the city. Even though the city just built a new $5 million dollar shelter for abandoned pets, there still isn’t enough room to house the overwhelming population.

So why not share the true meaning of Valentines Day with your significant other or, if you’re single like me, share it with yourself.  Go out today and save a life and give yourself the greatest companion there is to humans- A Dog.

Tidy Cats Lightweight Cat Litter

tidy cats lightweight cat litter

I am pretty picky about cat litter and I have tried all kinds. From the recycled newspaper type, to corn, to clay. I can honestly say none of it has made me very happy. I also have a child who is asthmatic, so any type that has dust is really not good around here.

One of the biggest things I dread about buying cat litter is lugging it around into my apartment. I live on the third story and there is only stairs.  This usually means I go buy litter and then drive around with it in my car for a few days, too lazy to lug it upstairs and not remembering to nag my husband to run down to the car to get it.

Tidy Cats cat litter has found a solution to my third story lugging problem. I was sent a container of their Lightweight Cat Litter to test out and see how well it did. I must say, it really is a lot lighter. The container was the same size as a 20 lb one, but weighed a mere 8.5 lbs. What a difference!
