Hershey’s Track and Field Contest!

Hershey’s, while mostly known for it’s delicious chocolate and candies, has another project that they would like you to know about.  Hershey’s Track and Field Games!  Really- from Hershey’s.  I know, I know.  Odd combo.  But, since chocolate is not exactly low fat- I guess Hershey wanted you to know that exercise is also important for you!  I have to tell you- LOVE the water bottle.  It holds a LOT of water, which is great for on-the-go.

Physical activity is important at any age, but by encouraging your children to be active, you can help them gain an appreciation for a healthy lifestyle at a young age.

Since 1978, The HERSHEY®’S Track & Field Games has helped more than 10 million children get active and learn valuable lessons such as sportsmanship and hard work. Now in its 34th year, HERSHEY’S Track & Field Games hosts thousands of boys and girls, ages 9 to 14, in nearly 4,000 North American communities. They will compete this spring and summer in track and field events ranging from the standing long jump and softball throw to a variety of running and relay races – and all at no cost of entry. All you need is a pair of shoes.

To program culminates each year with the HERSHEY’S Track & Field Games North American Final Meet in Hershey, Pa. Held each year in August, the North American Final Meet hosts 450 outstanding young participants in a fun and exciting, all-expenses paid weekend trip to Hershey. During the weekend, participants tour the world’s largest chocolate factory and visit Hersheypark amusement park, among other exciting activities.

Nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis and Olympic decathlon legend Rafer Johnson will again return as HERSHEY’s Track & Field Games ambassadors in 2011.

To further encourage physical activity among kids and families, Hershey is teaming up with the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program to collect old, worn-out athletic shoes to be recycled into Nike Grind, a material used in creating athletic and playground surfaces, as well as select Nike products. Program participants will be invited to bring used athletic shoes to state and provincial meets, which will then be recycled into Nike Grind. A HERSHEY’s Track & Field Games playground will be awarded to a participating local community as part of the program’s work with Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program. Since its inception in the early 1990’s, Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program has recycled more than 25 million pairs of athletic shoes into Nike Grind.

So lace up your children’s favorite pair of sneakers and get ready to cheer them on at the finish line! To learn more about HERSHEY’S Track & Field Games, and to find a local event in your area, please visit www.hersheystrackandfield.com.

Thomas’ Bagel Thins Morning Tips

Tips from Thomas’ Bagel Thins!

KERI GLASSMAN
Thomas’® Bagel Thins™ Bagels Morning Tips

Don’t skimp on sleep
o It’s important to get a good night’s sleep to feel well-rested – ready to take
on the day! Most adults need about seven to eight hours of sleep each
night, and studies have shown that those who get less have impaired
memory and physical performance. Not getting enough sleep can also
make concentration difficult, and leave you feeling drowsy all day. So aim
to get enough sleep each night. It’ll boost your immune system, help your
nervous system work properly, and leave you feeling energized all day!
Experts estimate that compared to getting 7 to 8 hours per night, the risk
of developing obesity rises 23 percent with just 6 hours of sleep per night,
50 percent with only 5 hours per night, and 73 percent with 4 hours per
night!

Have a healthy breakfast
o While sleeping each night, your body is in a fasting mode, so within an
hour of rising, you need to break that fast by eating a healthy breakfast.
It gives your body the fuel it needs to meet your busy schedule and
skipping breakfast decreases your metabolism, and increases your
cravings throughout the day! Studies have also shown consuming
breakfast improves cognition and memory in children and adolescents
making them able to concentrate and be more attentive in school. We all
have some kid in us, so use this tip to your advantage!

Eat empowered
o Every morning when you sit down to breakfast (and every meal!),
remember that each meal is an opportunity to get back in the game
and stay on course. You should feel empowered by making the right
choices. There are always healthier alternatives to the high-fat, high-
calorie, nutrient-less options that we all tend to go for, and I always keep
a healthy staple product on-hand to help me quickly make a delicious and
nutritious meal. Thomas’® Bagel Thins™ bagel is one of those better-for-
you options – they’re 110 calories each, low in fat and every flavor is at
least a good source of fiber. It’s not “I can’t eat that heavy bagel” – it IS –
“I can eat the Thomas’ Bagel Thins™ bagel!

Start with a glass of lemon water
o Drinking enough h2o throughout the day helps with weight loss in
several ways. First, there’s an emotional component; it will make you feel
empowered and will help spur you to make good choices for the rest of
the day. Second, researchers have long known that dieters who replace
sweetened drinks with water lose weight more quickly that those who
don’t. Finally, many people overeat because they are actually thirsty and
just can’t tell the difference between thirst and hunger. Also, when you’re
adequately hydrated, your metabolism functions at its best.

Exercise steady
o Aside from burning calories, exercise is important because it causes your
body to release endorphins, making you feel good, and motivating you

to eat well, do your job well, and simply be happy! I love exercising in the
early am, and eating breakfast when I’m done, and typically, people who
work out in the morning are more likely to stick to their routine, than those
who squeeze it in later. If you’re averse to starting your day with more
rigorous exercises like running, try a lower-impact activity like yoga. Just
do something!

Coldcam Homeopathic Medicine Review and Contest!

Boiron, makers of great homeopathic medicines, recently sent me Children’s Coldcam to try out. I didn’t review it right away, because I actually wanted to use it and see how it worked, LOL.
The Coldcam comes in a little tube about the size of a chapstick- in fact, it is in the bag next to a Burt’s Bees chapstick, and I often mistakenly grab it when I am looking for the chap stick, LOL.
When you take the top off, you turn it to take out tiny little balls or pellets of medicine. They taste like sugar-water to me. Here is what Boiron has to say about Childrens Coldcam

Children 3 years of age and older: At the onset of cold symptoms, take 5 pellets every 20 minutes for 1 hour. Then take 5 pellets every 2 hours until symptoms are relieved. Allow the pellets to dissolve in the mouth.

Children younger than 3 years of age: Ask a doctor before use.

Total Fitness DVDs- Review and Contest

OK, so it’s January. How is that New Years Resolution going? Have you found a fitness product or workout routine that you love? Variety, I believe, really is the spice of life. I like have different things to do on a regular basis, and that includes my exercise routine. If you are bored with yours, want to add in a little something for variety, or just want to try something new (or maybe get going on that resolution!) – do I know where you should look!
Total Fitness DVDs has a little bit of everything- which translates into something for everyone! (Yes, even you) There are so many fitness options, it’s nuts! Trying to narrow down what to try is both fun and a bit mind-boggling, LOL. (And they have a good promotional even going on right now, too!)

But I did find a fun one! Anyone who wants to try a fun workout, that is interesting, different, and something you will look forward to doing- this is one for you! I love Pure Barre Pershing Square 2 DVD, by Carrie Rezabek. Total Fitness DVDs has some really fun and interesting workout options- I have never heard of this one!- and when I got the chance to do a review of Pure Barre, I was super excited! I am not graceful, I am not (and never have been!) a dancer or enrolled in a dance or gymnastics class.
And, let me state this- IT IS REALLY HARD! Not because you need fantastic dance moves, or hard in the way that you will not want to do it, but it will definitely make you work. Like- the next day? I was sore in places I didn’t remember that I had, and I found myself muttering unkind things at the instructor under my breath as I went through the routine (hehehe). I also must confess- I didn’t make it all the way through the first time. But you know, I kept at it- and I did get though it after the third try. I am not going to hurt myself or kill myself over losing weight or getting “fit”- you can’t get fit if you can’t move, LOL!
I’m not in the best shape (I used to be a competitive athlete, and I was a paid model at one point long ago and far away!) but I know I can get there. Pure Barre definitely made me work- but isn’t that it’s “job”?
I do really like it. I posted a few times on Facebook and Twitter about how it is going- and if you are followers there, you know that I’m loving it! It’s hard, but so far it has been one of my favorites. I also Bookmarked “Total Fitness DVDs” for future use- they have such a great selection, and I know I am going to want to shop there the next time that I am on the lookout for a new “something” to get me moving!

Jennifer Galardi- Fitness Reatreat

Hey Bloggy Buddies! Jennifer Galardi, Fitness expert and teacher, will be holding a retreat in Nicaragua this coming February. She will be sponsoring a giveaway here on Have Sippy Will Travel for her newest fitness DVD, Sweating Sexy in a few days as well. Nationally recognized star of six best-selling dance/fitness DVD’s, Jennifer Galardi is a popular figure among top media, and held in high esteem throughout the fitness industry,. Jennifer has been seen as the face of top health and fitness brands such as Adidas, Under Armour, New Balance, lululemon, Nike, and Coca Cola’s Enviga drink and featured in popular magazines such as Cooking Light, Fitness, Shape, Oxygen and Health.
I asked her a few questions about her upcoming retreat, and here is what she had to say!
Why did you choose Nicaragua for your retreat site?
I chose Nicaragua because it was a country that still seemed undiscovered not only for me, but most likely for others. I know very little about this area and I love to explore different cultures. I thought it would be a wonderful opportunity for participants to see how others live and contribute to a typically impoverished community.
The resort where the retreat will be held, Jicaro Ecolodge, is a beautiful and special place. I think the floating dock, where I can do one to one yoga instruction or nutritional consultations really sold me!

What is an inspiration for you?
I am inspired by my students every day. Every day they strive to be better and learn more. I often will stay after a class to talk to students about their individual issues or concerns. Anyone with a sincere interest to learn and educate themselves is a star pupil to me. I am also inspired by my teachers and mentors. There have been so many in my life, but I always look to them when I need an extra ‘boost’ or find myself stuck or confused. And music is always a great inspiration to move and express [Read more…]
