Kermit the Frog coloring sheet- Halloween/El Dia de los Muertos

El Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead), a Mexican celebration, is a day to celebrate, remember and prepare special foods in honor of those who have departed. On this day in Mexico, the streets near the cemeteries are filled with decorations of papel picado , flowers, candy calaveras (skeletons and skulls), and parades.
It is believed that the spirit of the dead visit their families on October 31 and leave on November 2.
In order to celebrate, the families make altars and place ofrendas (offerings) of food such as pan de muertos baked in shapes of skulls and figures, candles, incense, yellow marigolds known as cempazuchitl (also spelled zempasuchil) and most importantly a photo of the departed soul is placed [Read more…]

National Geo Kids Halloween Book of Fun @NGKidsBks

Happy Halloween!

Are you in the mood for some spooky festive fun without the terror and nightmares that the holiday is known for?  Maybe more of the fun and costumes, pumpkins and all that wonderful stuff.  Well, a good place to start is National Geographic Kids.  I know what you are thinking.  What do animals have to do with Halloween?  Well “Nat Geo” does a lot more then just animals.  This year they have published a wonderful book called National Geographic Kids Halloween Book of Fun.  Contained in these pages are hundreds of fun activities to do with your kids, ranging from creative costume ideas to coloring pages, to Halloween themed crafts that are easy for kids, and adults.

I especially liked the Halloween fun facts which were peppered throughout the book.  Much too often, kids get the wrong ideas about Halloween, thinking it is all about monsters and scaring people.  Yes, that is a fun by-product, BUT Halloween is more about letting your “other” self out.  Expressing yourself in the form of a costume/role play is to let that creativity that is within you shine for all to see (and the candy of course!)  Another point I like about this book is that it is easy to flip to a page and have something fun to do with your kids, there isn’t a lot of planning and prep work.  Daddy likes that a whole lot, too, LOL.

Make sure you follow National Geographic Kids on Twitter- they have awesome books!

Shopping for Halloween Candy with Mars #DontBeTheDarkHouse #CBias

This was such a fun shop!  I love that I get to send a little Halloween fun to a friend who was just saying that she was in need of some chocolate, LOL.

My bloggy buddy over at Closer to Lucy was an easy choice for who to send over this cute “Boo Bag” to, since not only is she a fab friend, but literally that very day was saying that she wanted chocolate- so it seemed only appropriate!

I don’t know that this bag will be a surprise for her, since I am posting the day before I am mailing it (sorry girl, you know I am leaving for Ohio tomorrow for the Bob Evans Farm Festival, LOL) but hey- all chocolate is good chocolate, and it’s even better when it’s Halloween candy, yeah?  😛

Kamikaze, Little Man, and Daddy all came with me on this trip, and we got a few things we were going to pick up for our trip anyway, like a camera case and sno-balls (Little Man’s fav travel snack, and the only time I let him have them, LOL)  Daddy is going to mail this package to Miss Lucy tomorrow since I will be leaving before the post office opens- it’s now sitting on the table in a box, addressed and ready to go!  (AND I even set an alarm on his phone so he can’t say he “forgot”, lol)

Check out My Moment for all the fun pics and to see our shopping trip  🙂
Have fum, and Happy Halloween!
