Poofin Contest!

Little Man loves his Poofin.  He brings it all over the place.  Wait- you don’t know what a Poofin is?  Let me tell you all about it  🙂
Poofin, which debuted at NY Toy Fair this year, is a fun new toy that is sure to get you and your child talking.  It was created to help you and your children get to know each other better.  What they like, dislike- and all their favorites.  We often think we know out kids, but can be really surprised with some of their answers!  Poofin is a cute, soft, plush star.  Inside the Poofin, you can place little charms inside them, to personalize your Poofin and fill it with your child’s favorites.  Poofin comes in 3 colors, red, blue, and pink.
Little was sent a red Poofin and a shark Charm.  He thought it was fun- and wanted to sleep on it, LOL.  It is soft and pillow-y!

A Poofin is an uber plush, star-shaped toy with a hollow center that can hold a collection of
small plush charms. The charms feature images of people, places and things kids are crazy
about. Over time, kids fill their pillow-sized Star with as many as 50 soft charms. Designed
to fit in a child’s bedroom, the Star and its contents allow a child to reflect on all the positive
experiences and things in their life. The Poofin Star is also perfectly portable for sleepovers and
road trips, helping kids who are on-the-go easily share who they are with friends and family.

“Poofin is a ‘must have’ for parents who want to raise a happier, more confident child,”
according to author and psychologist Maureen Healy. Healy is the founder of Growing Happy

Kids, a worldwide organization dedicated to bringing out the best in children and blogger for
PsychologyToday.com. She has written about how mirroring a child’s unique skills and interests,

an activity that Poofin facilitates, can be very positive and empowering for the child.

Poofin was tested with hundreds of kids, and one thing was certain – it got them talking about
who they are and what they like. As kids build their own Poofin charm collection, they get a
better understanding of just how awesome they are.

“A big part of Poofin is about asking questions and tapping into a child’s natural curiosity. Who
are you? Do you play a sport? What do you like to do for fun? Who is your best friend?” says
Poofin Co-founder Ann Bowar. “If the act of acknowledging what makes you unique and seeing
what makes you the one and only you can make you shine a little brighter, then we hope Poofin

can be an empowerment tool that helps kids navigate their journey through childhood.”

The first edition of Poofin charms, now available at poofin.com, features 20 unique images
of things kids love – from yummy ice cream cones, to graceful ballerinas, and even ferocious
sharks. The charms have looped tags so kids can easily attach their favorites to their backpack.
Kids can also create custom Poofin charms inside the online Poofin Factory.

Got Royal Wedding Fever? Take a peek at these Will and Kate paper dolls!

Did you wake up early to watch?  Ok, I didn’t, but I watched when I got home!  AMAZING!!!  LOL.  Few things can captivate the world like a Royal Wedding!  It’s nice to see so many people assembled for something beautiful and happy- a wedding between two young people so obviously in love, what a charming story!  And for any of us who are either Royal Watchers or history lovers, how can we resist this fun keepsake from Dover Publications- William and Kate Paper Dolls!
While not a celebrity watcher (I never know who is who!), I am and have been fascinated with the royals.  You all know I love history, so how could I resist a British royal wedding?  LOL.  You also have to admire the grace that the couple has shown.  (Kate looked so composed!  What bride is that calm- let alone one being broadcast to billions?)
Dover has been publishing paper doll books since the 1970s, and while these are great fun- they take them seriously!  These dolls, and their outfits, are historically accurate and accompanied by well researched introductions and captions, how helpful!
They also produce books in an Earth friendly manner and print on recycled paper.  (A Dover Green Edition)
Celebrate the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton with this keepsake paper doll treasury! This special commemorative edition paper doll book features paper dolls of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, plus a splendid wardrobe of seven costumes for each. Outfits include William’s RAF uniform and the gorgeous sapphire-blue wrap dress that Kate wore at the press conference announcing their engagement.
This paper doll book also includes background information that chronicles the courtship of Prince William and Kate Middleton and an informative section on Royal Trivia. Plus, when you purchase William and Kate Paper Dolls from Dover Publications, you’ll be able to get a FREE download of the couple’s wedding attire after their marriage.

This new collection of William and Kate Paper Dolls features paper dolls of both Prince William and Miss Kate Middleton plus 14 different outfits. The clothes actually offer a fashion timeline of the couple’s relationship, dating back to what they wore for the Prince’s graduation from the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, in 2006, to Kate Middleton’s now-famous blue “Issa” dress worn for the televised engagement announcement in 2010. “
You will also get free updates of the wedding outfits as soon as they are available!

Proflowers Contest (Just in time for Mother’s Day!)

Mothers Day is a week away!  Flowers are one of the “go to” gifts we think of when it comes time to give our mom’s a gift.  This is where Proflowers comes in.  Proflowers is best known for their wonderful bouquets.  But they also have great Mothers Day Potted Plants including gorgeous orchids and even bonsai‘s.  I recently received a wonderfully gorgeous Potted Lavender Azalea.  It was shipped packed very tightly yet gently enough to ensure the plant was cozy and safe but not squished and DOA.  Right now she is thriving on my kitchen table, waiting for the weather to be perfect for a bring the little one to her new home in the yard.

Proflowers does not only have plants and cut flowers but also have sweets, chocolates, brownies, cookies, gifts, teddy bears, bath/spa sets, and even fruit baskets for those of us who would like to stick to our diets. 😉

All these gifts look great, especially the Mrs. Fields cookies
I really like the floral tips section of Proflowers site.  Not only are you getting flowers and plants, but you are giving your loved ones a bright sunshine sunshine into their day.  With the tips from porflowers you ccan keep that sunshine going for longer.  There is also a touch of history and fun.  What does a yellow rose mean?  How about a white rose?  Very fun.  Not to mention the great coupons page– who doesn’t love a bargain?  You can save Save 20%, Free vase, Free weekday delivery and other deals!
This is also a great way to surprise your mom at the office if she works- she will make all the other ladies green with envy, and what a thoughtful child she has to surprise her like that!  (We all like to feel special, don’t we?)
And if your mom is not close (distance wise), you can rest assured that your gift will arrive on time, and looking fabulous.
I love my new azalea and hope you all get your loved ones a gift they will enjoy just as much.  Proflowers can help, take a look around.

My Little Pony Contest!

You asked for it, you got it!  And boy, are you getting it….Oh, wait- I forgot to tell you what we are talking about!  Girls toys, girls toys!  You wanted more Girl Stuff on here!  That’s tough for me, because Kamikaze doesn’t always love to participate, and Little is- well, he’s a boy!  But we figured it out.  Little would test the toys, but we would also bring them to the Pre-K, and let the girls bring them home for a day at a time to see what they thought, as well.  The girls have fun playing with new toys, and we get girl reactions!  Haha.  Look at that, I’m a genius!  (I don’t have 3 degrees for nothing!  LOL)
OK, we are starting with a personal favorite from my own childhood- My Little Pony!  They sure have changed since I was a kid.  They also still have a show to go along with the toys (you can watch it on the Hub Channel- check for local listings).  These are NOT myMy Little Ponies, for sure!  Can you tell I was a fan?!  LOL…

Ok, back to THIS toy!  It is called My Little Pony Twilight Sparkle’s Twinkling Balloon PlaysetLittle Man had fun playing with it, and so did the girls in the Pre-K.  It can be a challenge to get photos without showing faces- so bear with me!  🙂  The kids loved it- they loved the magic balloon, and that it lit up and played music.  The door falls off a lot- so be prepared to pop it back on often.  Or glue it shut, like I did.  Spike the Dragon came with the set, and he is just so cute.  Spike and Twilight Sparkle can look through the telescope and see all the wonders that can be seen in Ponyland.
(Or maybe your house!  Haha.)

The kids all loved it!  Here is Little with some buddies at the Pre-K.

You can buy this fun toy HERE.
You can also win this fun toy to add to your My Little Pony collection!

miYim- soft and snuggley toys Review and Contest

I just found out about this really adorable company with a fun name- miYim!  Have you heard of them?  Let me introduce you!

miYim is a sweet, cute, organic plush cotton line of children’s toys.  (PS- they also have an organic dog toy line!)  As you know, “going ggreen” is not only great for the planet and the future (and our children!) but also for our bodies.   Did you know 1/3 of the world’s pesticides are used for cotton fields?  I didn’t!  These harmful toxins get into everything- the ground, water, animals, plants- and us.  By eliminating the use of any of these harmful chemicals, miYim produces a safer product for your child, and a better product for our planet.  I LOVE COMPANIES THAT CARE!!!!

A little more about this fun and Earth Friendly company-
“miYim aims to enrich the lives of today’s families by fostering the imaginations of children and celebrating the lifestyle of the eco-conscious home. miYim is more than just playthings – we aim to teach values and environmental responsibility, all while touching the hearts of children through imagination and whimsy. Starting with organic food, the organic movement has grown from its small beginnings into a large movement fuelled by people’s desire to lead a healthier lifestyle. At miYim we are taking this idea and applying it to our most precious resource of all, our children.”

We were sent an adorable plush lion to review.
This cute little lion from the Jane Goodall collection at miYim found it’s way into Little Man’s bed, and into his “wild animals” themed room.   This particular collection caught my eye for two obvious reasons- One, that it consisted of wild animals.  Little Man loves animals, that child may grow up to be a vet or something of that nature.  He loves “wild animals”, “sea creatures”, and “puppies” above all other things.

There they are, getting ready for bed!  (And how many other photos have you seen that cutie-patootie little Lion pop up in, right?  You’ve seen that face before!  LOL.  He’s been a bedtime pal since he got here!)
The quality (and cuteness!) of this organic toy is fantastic, and I already have my eye on one of the little guys from the Petites Collection for his birthday coming up.   (Can you tell that when we like stuff, we really do tend to buy from them?  That is why you see updates from me on the blog, Twitter, and Facebook.  I like you to know that I MEAN IT when I say that we liked something enough to buy it as a gift, or for my kids.)

Lion is not only adorable and well made, but by making a purchase from the Jane Goodall Collection, you are also supporting Dr. Goodall’s important work!

“People, animals and the environment are all connected. The Wild Animal Collection was created with this core value in mind. The thoughtful and realistic looking animals are colored with miYim’s PureWaterWashTM process using only plants and minerals, making these toys a safe alternative to toys made with environmentally damaging processes.
Part of the proceeds from each purchase will go towards the Jane Goodall Institute to help support the continuation of Dr. Goodall’s scientific work and her humanitarian vision.”
Truly a company that cares, with morals and that gives back, to boot!
When you couple that with a fabulous bunch of toys that are priced right (the Jane Goodall Collection are priced at $24.99, and these are well made, sturdy toys, well worth it!)  and not overpriced- how can you go wrong?
Would you like to win a Lion of your own?  Yeah you would!  LOL
Then you can start your own collection!

Beautiful Blue Eyes

I love this book.  It is just the sweetest thing, it will really melt you.  The prose is beautiful, and flows melodically.  It is a favorite of mine to read to Little at bedtime.  Marianne Richmond just says the most insightful and thoughtful things, that maybe we don’t think to say a lot, or often enough.   The author, who also wrote If I Could Keep You Little, began writing in an interesting way- she was diagnosed with a brain tumor (thankfully benign), the cause of numerous epileptic seizures through her childhood. During her five-week recovery period, Marianne created hand-painted thank you cards for her many well-wishers. With Jim’s, her new boyfriend, and friend’s encouragement, she decided to launch her own greeting card business, Marianne Richmond Studios, Inc.  As distribution for her cards increased, she decided to try her hand at writing a book, honoring her biggest fan, her now-husband Jim, with The Gift of an Angel.

Maybe it is because of this that she has such a gift with words, and that the words she chooses to say, in the way that they are used, are so amazing.  I have to say that I was touched as a mother.  This beautiful book would be perfect for your blue-eyed child, as a reminder that you love and adore them- even when we are too tired to find the right words to tell your little one.  We may not always know the right words to say to our babies- what can we do.  Long days, so much to do- sometimes, we are just not able to find the right words.  This is why I am grateful when I find something as lovely and well-written as Beautiful Blue Eyes.  Thank you, Ms. Richmond, for writing down the words that I want to say when I can’t remember how to say them.
Thank you for this beautiful book.
Mommies of Blue-Eyed babies- this one is a keeper.  But if your baby is brown eyed- it’s ok, she already wrote one for them  🙂  (I have not read that one!)   There are plans for a Green-Eyed book as well.
You can purchase the book, and other books by Marianne Richmond here.
Happy Reading, and have a sweet, snuggely story time!  🙂

Disclosure- we received a copy of this book to review- all opinions are my own  🙂

Madagascar LIVE- so super fabulous!

OUT OF THE ZOO AND ONTO THE STAGE!  OUT OF THE ZOO AND ONTO THE STAGE!!!

“All of your favorite crack-a-lackin friends from Madagascar are out of the zoo and onto the stage in Madagascar Live – a wild new musical adventure based on the blockbuster DreamWorks film. Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip hip Hippo and of course, those hilarious, plotting penguins as they escape from their home at New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar. This celebration of friendship is brought vividly to life by imaginative sets and costumes, action-packed adventure and spectacular new songs that will inspire you to MOVE IT MOVE IT in the aisles. Get ready to go wile at MADAGASCAR LIVE!”

My Little Man is such a fan of this movie, and now after seeing it LIVE at Radio City Music Hall in NYC, I am too!  I am sitting here, bouncing and singing “I like to move it, move it”, and my preschoolers have been dancing around with us since we got home!  Everybody up!  Everybody down!  LOL…. it’s stuck in my head!  AHHHHH!!!!!
I had high expectations going in, and boy, let me tell you, they were met!
Little Man is in love with Gloria, the hippo, above all others.  And seeing her dance and sing right before his eyes was just the bees knees!

The sets were awesome, I loved the subway scene!  Perfect.  And the boat scenes were done really well- super cute.  Poor Melman!  The whole thing was too just much for that poor giraffe, LOL.  Those Penguins were up to their usual tricks, but found out that there is no place like home- and set out to find all their former zoo-mates.  Alex the Lion and Marty the Zebra are best friends, but will they stay that way once they realize how the Food Chain works?  Let me tell you, also- Maurice?  That lemur can really bust a move (and was so amazing vocally- James Brown!  Woot!)  King Julian is my personal favorite, and it was so much fun to watch him live.  We also got the chance to meet him backstage!  Little was so excited- look at his cheesecake face, lol.

Before the show started, we got to see the Radio City Stage Door Tour, and it was on that tour that we were able to meet King Julian.  We also met an actual Rockette! (Little Man informed me “Mom- she got big tall legs!”)   Yep, thanks darling!

It was also a lot of fun to hear about the design of Radio City Music Hall, see costumes, statues, and photos of the Rockettes from their start (NOT in NYC, believe it or not!) in 1932 all the way until today.  This is also where we got to meet the Rockette pictured above!
Seeting King Julian in person was the most fun for most of the kids (and me!) and he was really nice, friendly, and funny!  He gave the kids little penguins, and had them answer questions.  He also taught them the “Move it, Movie it” dance, and told them not to “be snooty with the booty”, LOL…I laughed harder then Little did  🙂
The whole team at Radio City was sweet, friendly, helpful, and kind to the kids.  They gave them bags with snacks, juice, toys (Little got GLORIA!!!) and King Julian signed a poster for him!  Could they have been any sweeter?   They were also super energetic, God bless them, haha.  In fact, they were so thoughtful- THEY EVEN SCHEDULED A BATHROOM BREAK!!!!   How awesome, right?  This way, no one missed anything due to a Captain Pee-Pee Pants, LOL.

Little Green Books- review and contest

I really like the idea behind Little Green Books.  They explain the importance of caring for the earth and it’s inhabitants to kids in a fun and friendly way.  AND these adorable books are manufactured green- printed with soy in on recycled materials.
We used them all during Earth Week at the Pre-K, and will use them randomly throughout the year.  Earth Day is every day, after all!

We reviewed
This is Our World
The Polar Bears Home
Easy to be Green
I Can Save The Ocean!

I also really liked the Easy To Be Green activity book- my Preschool class got a lot of fun out of it!  The book gives ideas of ways kids can help the Earth, fun facts, coloring pages, etc.  They had a lot of fun with it.

Here is some more info about Little Green Books!

This new series of books will get little ones excited about going green. From recycling and replanting to creating an awareness of endangered animals and much more, Little Green Books plant the seeds for earth-friendly living at an early age. Each book in this environmentally friendly line is made from recycled materials – proving our commitment to this worthy cause.

Little Green Books is a new eco-friendly series from Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing Division. As our mission statement above explains, each book in this series will be devoted to educating children about the benefits of being green.

Little Green Books will cover a variety of subjects, teaching children about the dangers of global warming, the benefits of recycling, what they can do to help endangered animals, and much more. In I Can Save The Earth!, children can follow Max the Little Green Monster on his journey as he goes from being a litterbug to loving the earth. And in The Polar Bears’ Home, children can learn about the polar bears’ habitat and how it has become a victim of global warming. On a lighter note, The Adventures of a Plastic Bottle details the journey of a plastic bottle, from a blob of crude oil to a plastic bottle to a fleece sweatshirt! Told in diary form, this humorous tale is sure to give readers a laugh while stressing the significance of the recycling process.

What sets our books apart from other “green” books is that in addition to the themes, the manufacturing of these books is also environmentally friendly. Our books are printed on recycled materials with vegetable or soy inks. This initiative will continue as the series progresses, from storybooks to cloth books to novelty board books. A unique, innovative new series, Little Green Books plant the seeds of eco-friendly consciousness at an early age so that we can grow a generation of earth-friendly readers.

Nice, right?  I know that was a large blurb- but I liked it, so….so I put it there, LOL.
They also have this great Parent and Teacher page that helps you share Earth Friendly information and topics with children.  They also have fun activities, pages, postcards, etc that you can download for free to do with the kids in your life.  I used them quite a bit this week!

5 of you lucky ducks will win the exact same set of books that I reviewed here.
Love it?  Love it.
Ok, so….
