Get Kids Thinking and Exploring with Nancy B

One of my favorite brands for educational, yet still truly fun toys is Educational Insights. I love how creative and interesting their toys are, and how engaged they keep the kids. As a teacher and mother, those “ah-ha!” moments are wonderful, but just as important are the moments that they are actively enjoying their learning experience- while playing. (Hopefully at least some of the time, with me!)

 nancy b

Nancy B’s Science Club toys debuted this year at Toy Fair 2013, and they were some of my favorite items of the show. Designed to inspire girls to become interested in and learn more about science, these were developed by former science teacher Nancy Balter. The colors are appealing to girls, but also young children in general. Each product in the Nancy B category comes with a science journal to keep track of your notes and progress, as well as access to an online science club. This club has partnered with female scientists from around the world who provide content to the site and contribute their knowledge. Just a side note- none of these products will break the bank, especially when compared to other similar items, and they are good quality.

The Nancy B’s Science Club Binoculars and Wildlife Activity Journal encourage outside play and exploration. The accompanying journal also includes a bird watching “find it” activity, and ecosystem challenges so that your child is not only active, but learning. This is a great first step into science, because all kids would love to see the world through binoculars. A little time searching the woods with mom and dad and some encouragement, and who knows what they will learn? The Wildlife Activity Journal lets them look back on all they have seen and accomplished.

Safari Limited makes museum quality toys at a retail level price. Their toys vary from actual animals to mythological creatures- even wizards and witches. These toys are high quality plastic and don’t break easily. After a long afternoon of play time, they can still go right back onto the shelf and look as good as they did before.
The detail on these are incredible as well, but we will get more into that in a bit.
They are also fun to take along with you wherever you go, and put into fun spots 🙂

turtle toyThis one is a favorite of my son’s, he loves turtles, and learning about them. We brought this one with us to Florida and to Mexico to check out some of the beaches, and introduce it to some “natural” settings, LOL.

fl april 2013 121Matched with our Tortoise and Tortoise Baby, this Incredible Creatures Tortoise Hatchling makes a wonderful study tool for the life of a Tortoise. The wild animals in our Incredible Creatures collection are the largest models of any series, making them perfect for children’s small hands. How to Find Toys That Are Safe and Educational for Kids

02 23 13 630The safety of your children is of paramount importance, which is why you are so careful about the products and services you bring into your household and allow your children to access. And this is especially true when it comes to the toys that your kids play with every day. But in addition to providing them with toys that offer safe and non-toxic entertainment, you are no doubt interested in bringing home options that are educational, as well. Of course, this will require some homework on your part; it’s no easy feat to unearth toys that are not only designed to stimulate your children’s minds and help them hit developmental milestones, but that are also made from sustainable, non-toxic, and all-around safe materials. But there are ways to find what you seek. Here are just a few strategies that will ensure only the best toys for your kids.

A good place to start is by speaking to other parents. While some don’t pay much attention to the toys their kids play with, preferring to give them whatever is popular, there are some parents, like you, that strive to make sure every toy they bring home offers added value through educational elements and that any products their kids come in contact with are safe and suitable for children. With scares over toxic lead paint in kids’ toys and other safety concerns, it’s important to be aware of recalls and toy manufacturers that clearly don’t take their responsibility seriously when it comes to safety. So sharing information amongst a group of like-minded parents is a great way to find and pass along suggestions for toys that meet all of your criteria.

Jeepers Peepers Game – Super Duper Educational Learning Toy

What Am I?

game3

That’s the question that goes around the game Jeepers Peppers, an Ask and Answer Question will get the kids laughing and enjoying themselves. The game, by Super Duper Publications is aimed at kids ages 5 years old and older

The game comes with 101 Photo cards, six glasses, six clue cards, bingo chips and a spinner. How the game works is simple, each player gets a pair of glasses and picked a card (face down!) without looking at them of course and place it in the glasses. Each one has a little card holder, place the glasses on your head and make sure your all in a circle to see each other. Each player gets a clue card which covered categories you use to guess what your card is. Going around the circle you ask the yes or no questions to see if you can guess who you are. It’s easier to do this one at a time but my kids did the round robin way.

Tick-Tock’s Toy Clock- Learning To Tell Time

Telling time with an analog clock can be one of the more difficult activities your child could learn this year in school. Not only is this difficult for kids, but as kids become adults, they can still have a hard time with this. This is only second to splitting the bill after dinner in difficulty for adults. 😛

Whats a good way to get your children interested in keeping time? A cute play clock of course, lol. Take a look at Tick-Tock ‘s Talking Toy Clock. It is a bright, colorful clock adorned with the blue penguin. With Tick-Tock ‘s help, your child will be able to tell time before you know it. This is perfect for those kids who are always asking when to do something or what time it is or how long will this take. (So….all of them.) Within a few play/learning sessions with Tick-Tock, time will be a breeze with your little ones. Just be careful when you say, “give me five minutes”, because they will return in five minutes- unless it is five minutes until bed.
