You love your baby. They are the apple of your eye and you want to be able to see them all day and all night. How would you do this without either installing an expensive surveillance system or setting up a cot and learning how to creep stealthily like a ninja when going to the facilities are night? I jest- but really- how DO mommies get peace of mind at night?
Truly, I wish I had had this option when my son was born, the Closer to Nature Digital Video Sensor Pad Monitor. This monitor has a digital camera built into the satellite as well as a 2.8 inch color LCD screen on the viewer. I got the best available at the time- but this…this is pure magic!

This monitor has everything you could want in a baby monitor. Crystal clear sound, great reception and the ability to make it a two way audio connection to name a few. When our little one needs a little pep talk of, ‘it will be ok, shhhhhh go to sleep.’ It can be done without leaving your bedroom. This is no substitute for actual face time but it works for little fits. I know what you are thinking- my son is not a baby. Why do I have a monitor in his room?

He’s never been a good sleeper. He as breathing issues, and I am afraid that I won’t hear him if he is in distress and he sleeps upstairs. So, I never took the monitor out.

The connection between the monitor and the satellite is via 2.4 GHz FHSS- which means it hops frequencies so no one else could be watching the same video feed as you. No one wants their kiddo spied on!
There is also Sensisleep pad included with the monitor, which registers the most minute of movements, breathing as well, and if there is no movement for 20 seconds, it sets off an alarm which ends up not only waking up the parental unit or units, but also the baby itself. We had a scare where Little Man wasn’t breathing once when he was a baby, luckily enough we had a vigilant dog who woke us up. The next day- we bought a top-of-the line monitor with sensory pad- but this one puts it to shame- so I swapped it out.

We also tested this before actually setting it up and it worked quite well. It is quite clear something is wrong when the alarm starts blaring, kind of like a smoke alarm. You never want it to go off- but if it does, you will be glad you had it.

In addition to all these nifty features the camera is also a night vision one as well as a thermometer which outputs to the LCD screen.
The one draw back to this monitor is you will find yourself using it quite often. Whenever there is a lull in the conversation or a commercial on TV your gaze will move to the screen. It is quite addictive. Especially for mommy. πŸ˜› They are cute when they sleep, ay?

  1. It’s crazy to see what parents have now compared to what I had when I was kid!

  2. I really wish they had these when my babies were small…I would have totally loved a video feature on my monitors!

  3. Sounds like a great device!

  4. I don’t keep a monitor in the man-child’s room anymore because at 15 years old I really don’t wanna know what he’s doing in there. BUT he had the same issues until I bought him a quality humidifier and ran it at night. He still uses it, especially in the winter months.

I still keep a monitor in little girl’s room, mostly because I want her to be able to call me if she needs me and I can’t hear her because her room is at the other end of the house. She never really calls me but because of her disabilities I think it gives both of us a piece of mind that she could if she needed.

Last year I saw a story on the news about a woman that went in to check on her daughter before going to bed herself. When she opened the door a man was standing over her daughter. He of course booked it out the window that he had come in from but I have been freaked ever since, so she will have a monitor until I’m dead….I may even put it in my will, not even kidding.

Her system is dated, I love this one….am totally looking at it now!

  5. I love this! I Would buy this monitor for sure if I had another baby. I don’t blame you at all, if I had it I would use it a Gianna as well.

  6. This is awesome! I plan on putting my son in his own big boy bed but I worry about him. This would be great to have. Thanks for sharing the review!

  7. This is quite amazing – would be great for parents’ peace of mind. Nice idea for a baby shower present, I’d say!

  8. Man, I would love to have something like that just so I could spy on my 15 month old twins and see what on earth they’re giggling about in there when they should be sleeping. πŸ˜›

  9. I need something like this for my boys! Great review. I’ve been so torn on which baby monitor to get, and I’d love to get this one. πŸ™‚

  13. This would be such a perfect shower gift because what mother doesn’t worry about their child sleeping especially when first new born. Also if my child had breathing issues I’d use one of these too to give me peace of mind.
