After Christmas time my kids asked if we could keep the tree up. They love the bright colors and the lights. At first I refused because I like my home to stay neat, tidy and tree-free (after Christmas has passed). Even with 23+ years of experience working with kids I still have my moments of wanting NO MESSES!

I soon moved past that idea and thought, “Why not, eh? Kids need to have fun – no harm done here.” We decided then and there to decorate a tree for various holidays all year long. So far we’ve have a Valentine’s Day Tree and now… our St. Patrick’s Day Tree! Next up we’ll have Easter and then Memorial Day.

View the photos to see how our St. Patrick’s Day Tree turned out. We purchased some of the decorations at The Dollar Store, made some of them (with printouts from ABCTeach.com) and re-used green tissue paper (from our food co-op pear box) to fill in some gaps.
My daughter had a blast helping with the tree, as did my toddler son!

  1. LOL.

I thought that we were the only people crazy to decorate our Christmas trees to different holidays all year round. I love it….so cute.

  2. I have an adorable white, flocked Christmas tree that I decided to leave up after Christmas as a “winter” tree. We decorated it for Valentine’s Day as well. I loved the soft light in the early morning in the den. But, once we hit some 60 degree days, I had to take it down – before St. Patrick’s Day unfortunately.

  5. What a fun idea! I think we will do one for Easter :O)

  6. What a fun idea!! We used to have a “Holiday Tree” – bunch of branches painted white. We’d put them into a different decorated container for each holiday, and make decorations.

Totally reminds me that I need to start that with MY little one now too 🙂

  7. I like the idea of keeping a tree up year round and just decorating for different holidays or times of the year.

  8. What a cute idea! My kids don’t ask to keep the tree up because we have a live one but this would be great with an artificial tree.

  9. I have always wanted to keep a holiday tree up! Now I might just consider it for real 🙂

  10. Cute idea. My kids always ask to keep the tree up.
