There are few experiences in life that eclipse the miracle of birth, so it’s understandable that parents want to commemorate every moment. While some new moms are not very keen on the idea of having a video camera in the delivery room, capturing every second of the event, most parents agree that snapping pics after the fact is desirable. And if you’re like most parents, you’re going to take plenty of photos once you bring baby home. After all, you want to make sure you don’t miss a single first, and you’re likely keen to send pics to family and friends that are eager to get a gander at your newborn. But you don’t necessarily want to take a million pictures of a fussy infant; you want pictures that show what a perfect little angel your baby is. So here are just a few tips that can help to ensure you get the beautiful photos of your newborn that you’ll cherish for a lifetime.

1. Pick your moments. If you want to get the best photos, you need to catch your baby in the right mood. And most infants are better behaved when they’re neither tired nor hungry. The obvious solution is to click away while your baby is sleeping, capturing adorable photos of your newborn in repose. But if you don’t want to rouse him, you really can’t move him around. And frankly, you

probably want some images that show off your infant’s gorgeous eyes and fun expressions. In this case you’ll want to make sure your baby has been fed and had a nap before you start setting up your photo shoot. It will make for much nicer pictures.

2. Forego costume changes. You wouldn’t like it much if someone forced you into a dozen different outfits in the space of an hour, and your baby probably won’t be too keen on it, either. If you want to avoid a fussy baby, space out your shots. Take a few pics of your newborn in one cute outfit and then suit him up in something else later in the day or even the following day. This way you can get tons of variety without upsetting your child.

3. Consider location and lighting. Choosing the right locations for your photos can make a big difference in the quality of shots you capture. For example, you might want some pics of your baby at the beach, but the wind, sand, and sunlight could upset him, whereas photos snapped in the comfort of home might come out better. You also want to make sure you have adequate lighting so that you capture every detail.

4. Practice distraction. If you want to elicit smiles, or at least keep your baby from crying while you take photos, you’re going to have to become adept at the art of distraction. Over time you’ll learn what catches your newborn’s interest and what even what makes him smile. And this can help you to get some truly memorable photos.

5. Hire a professional. Taking great newborn photos is no easy feat, so you may want to seek out a professional outlet like Amy Tripple Photography that has the experience and know-how to get the best snapshots of your newborn. You’ll end up with fantastic photos that your family and friends will be happy to hang on the wall.

Location and lighting are important. Also my hubby is silly, so he always gets our baby to giggle and smile and the pictures always come out amazing, he just has the extra touch I guess, he is a life saver when we go get pictures done. Couldn’t do it without him.
