Daily Cruise Diary
Today was our third day on the Norwegian Breakaway cruise ship, but the first “port day” (that is, day that the ship is docked for any length of time besides the day that we boarded).
We began out day pretty slowly. My husband and son were up first, and they hung out playing video games for about 20 minutes until I joined them in the land of the living. At that time, we all got dressed and headed upstairs to the buffet for breakfast. My husband likes to try a little bit of everything, I try a few things here and there, but also like my “staple” of some sort of fruit and yogurt. My son, oddly, eats only cereal and a hard boiled egg, possibly some bacon or sausage. Anyone who knows my son is aware that he normally eats anything and everything, and in large quantities. For some reason, right now at breakfast he prefers to take it slow. Not that it matters, there are tons of choices, and food is available all day long. (And not just in the buffet, but in the ship’s many restaurants as well. You won’t run out of options.)
Today was a “port” day, we were in Port Canaveral, Florida. As we were just in the area, and the day looked like it would rain, we decided to stay on the ship and take advantage of all the happenings (and the smaller quantity of people) on board. (I’m glad we did- it rained a lot of the day.)
There were excursion options, but none that looked like fun in the rain, so. Where we were docked, there was also nothing walkable, so that also made our choice an easy one for us.
My son loved the SpongeBob themed splash park, and we spent hours there with some of the other kids. We also went into the pools and went on all the waterslides multiple times. The splash park is great for all young kids, from the very little to about 10. The one area is clearly aimed at the very young, but the sprinkler-type area was attracting quite a few of the older kids.
There were 5 waterslides in all (not counting the tiny one in the kiddie area), and my son was on them more then his daddy and I could keep up with. His favorite slide was the purple one, he says “because you go around in a circle”. He felt like a shoelace- in his words.
We ate lunch poolside, then dried off and went to change out of swimsuits. We headed to the top deck to play mini golf, which is something my son loves. There are lots of fun things to do on the top decks, you can rock climb, do a ropes course, use the track- and of course, mini golf. There is an arcade inside as well.
They were showing the movie Muppets Most Wanted mid day, so we made sure to get there in time to see it. About 20 minutes before the movie ended, my son decided he was “starving”. (Yes, he’s dramatic.) The cool thing is that the deck above was O’Sheehan’s Neighborhood Bar and Grill, and we could order something to eat while we watched the movie from the restaurant. (It overlooks the theater area, so this worked out great.)
After the movie, we headed back to the room for about an hour- the kiddo was running on steam and needed a nap. After we rested, we headed to another of the ship’s restaurants for dinner, The Manhattan Room. Again, the food was great, and we all enjoyed our meals.
After dinner (and dessert) we dropped of the little mister at kid’s club for about an hour- they were having a dance party and playing dodgeball as well. When we picked him up, we headed up to the top deck for the “Happy Family Dance Party”. The kids club staff put on quite a show for the kids and their families, complete with dancing, snacks and ice cream, contests, balloon hats and face painting, and even a “pie in the face” for some “lucky” contestants.
We danced to pretty much every “wedding party” song I have ever head, and one I hadn’t.
My son wanted some ice cream, then we headed back to our room for bed. It’s been a long day, and we are all tired. Tomorrow, we are on island time!
That looks like so much fun. Honestly, when I went on a cruise some of my favorite times were exploring the ship and enjoying all that there was to do.
Man, I know you guys are having a blast. This is on my bucket list to take the whole family on a cruise. Have fun!!

You know, Hubby and I have been talking about taking the family on a cruise. Thanks so much for the info… will have to look further into it.
Some day I want to go on one of these cruises. I would love to take the family on a cruise
