Tequila is a bit of an acquired taste, but once it is acquired it is difficult to turn away from a good one. One of those fine libations is the new Jenni Rivera La Gran Señora Tequila. This tequila was developed by famed Mexican-American singer songwriter, Jenni Rivera. As some of you know, Jenni Rivera was a Mexican music legend, who passed away recently in a plane crash. One of her final projects she was working on was this line of tequila which includes a blanco, reposado, and añejo. This tequila is based on the Jenni Reivera’s idea to compete with the Don’s of tequila and rise above them, as is the theme of her music.

pic2The tequila itself is quite good. I enjoy it straight in shots as is. The flavor is complex and definitely a tequila, with its bold flavors. I am not good at describing the palate of the tequila, but it has been described as, “Aromas of light fresh agave, citrus and fruit. On the palate extremely smooth, sweet. Light notes of citrus and fruit. Long-lasting finish with black pepper. “  I taste the citrus and the fruit, and it is smooth.  For those of you with more sophisticated tequila palates, hopefully that helps.

This tequila is an example of good branding as opposed to most celebrity endorsed alcoholic beverages. It is unfortunate that she passed away so quickly, for so many reasons. It’s great to see that the product she worked on lives up to her strong personality.

The three varieties of tequila available are: Blanco ($39) Reposado ($45.99) Añejo ($49.99). We had the pleasure of trying the Blanco and very much enjoyed it. This would make a great gift for the tequila enjoy-er in your family, or a great bottle to open on New Year’s Eve.

I found the best way to enjoy this fine tequila is with a small shot to truly appreciated the flavor and enjoy its character and background notes.

I have had tequila in ages. We always drank gold, so maybe I’ll try one of those.

  3. I can’t remember the last time I had tequila (that’s a good thing, right?). It must’ve been great tequila if I can’t remember it!

I hadn’t heard of this brand. I used to drink tequila when I was younger, before I had kids. A friend and I called the drinks we had “kerbangers”. I wonder which of these I’d like best…
