Bialetti non-stick eco pan- Get Yours Here!

When you think of an non-stick eco friendly pan what comes to mind? Maybe an old pan plated in recycled fabric? Well no, actually it’s much more interesting than that, and a whole heck of a lot of more useful.
Bialetti has produced a new line of pots and pans called the Aeternum Collection. The key characteristic of these pans is this: nano-ceramics. These pans are coated in nano-ceramic coating on the interior, then an aluminum core and a high temperature silicon exterior. The nano-ceramic is very interesting. The coating is applied at a lower temperature then other non-stick coatings, less heat, less fire-less CO2. The material itself is PFQA free, PTFE free, and cadmium free. This collection has a bright red exterior from the high temp silicon and a clean white interior courtesy of the nano-ceramic.

Not only are these pans nice to look at in their package, but once you actually use them it is really neat to see a white cooking surface. I like the way you can get a light browning to food without over doing it. I also like how the surface of the pan is easy to clean. So far everything wipes right off it. As of yet, I have made over easy eggs, breakfast sausage, and a few different sauces. All of which cleaned off very easily. I was quite impressed, even the sauce and bubbles up and burns onto the rim of the pan, it didn’t even need the steel wool.
I definitely suggest these for anyone who cooks.

Here are a few more fun points-

  • Features nano-ceramic technology – it performs like nobody’s business and is PFOA, PTFE and Cadmium free
  • Clean up is a *snap*. It’s non-stick cooking without the non-stick coating
  • This is just like using a Teflon pan with the exception that it’s healthier AND longer lasting (no teflon coating means longer lifetime for the pan. This sucker’ll last you decades)
  • It’s lightweight yet extremely durable. The silicone handle keeps things cool around your digits, while the aluminum core evenly distributes heat
  • At 10.25″ in diameter, this generously sized pan prepares dishes for 2-4 people (more if it’s a side dish). It’s a popular and versatile size and one you’ll reach for every day
  • Comes standard with a 5-year manufacturers warranty against defects. Bialetti is a recognized leader in quality (not to mention it features clean Italian lines and design)

Miyako Glossy Ceramic Chef’s Knife

We all have knives in our kitchens. I’m guessing quite a few knives, some serrated, some not, all sharp and not meant to be played with. The main issue with most knives is they are made of metal. The issue with metal knives is that they can easily transfer flavors and smells from food to food. They also lose their sharp edge quickly, needing to be sharpened regularly.

Ceramic knives are a whole different monster. The big difference between ceramic and metal knives is (clearly) the material. Miyako is one of the more well respected ceramic [Read more…]

Cooking With Preschoolers: Swirly Lemon Cupcakes #Baking #Recipe

Not only can you make a swirly frosting pattern, but these fun cupcakes have swirls of
color on the inside too! Preschoolers and other young children love mixing the colors
and swirling the cupcakes! Cooking lets children practice math and science skills like
measuring, mixing, observing, predicting, and learning about change. This particular
activity also reinforces color and color changes.

Supplies:

* Your favorite Lemon Cake recipe (or mix!) and necessary ingredients
* Food coloring
* cupcake pan and liners
* Lemon frosting
* plastic baggies

Procedure:

1. Prepare your Lemon Cake according to directions.
2. Pour half the cake batter into two bowls. Add about 10 drops of food coloring to one
of the bowls. The natural color of most Lemon Cake batters is yellow. If you add blue
to the bowl (like the picture), your batter should turn green. Stir the batter to mix in the
color.

King Arthur- The Best for Baking!

Its baking time!
So we all enjoy a little sweet stuff every now and then.  Ok well maybe not so much since my diet but I still have to keep the troops happy with some dessert.  So I gave King Arthur’s chocolate lava cake mix a try.

Dying, right?  UGH!   I have got to say it came out quite good.  This mix was so easy to make and so good it is ridiculous.  It only took about 30 minutes, including the time it too to find the custard cups.  I love how the chocolate flows out of the cake upon first stab.  They are re real good right out the oven and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top…. or so I’ve heard.  My husband loves them and my kids just love the hot chocolate fudge center.  The only thing I will do different next time is get more mix. 🙂

Now onto something a bit more healthy.  I’m not sure if any of you have tried dieting or even eating well in a house of non-dieters, but temptation in the past but it is rough.  You want to eat well, but no one else in the house has to, or is willing to.  So you are stuck either being very jealous or feeding everyone else the diet food too.  Often getting at least one complaint- “this doesn’t taste normal”.  So sneaking in some healthy is a a tricky for somethings.

King Arthur has made a white whole wheat flour that helps with this.  It has the nutrients of a whole wheat flour but none of the brown and specks of a whole wheat flour.  So it can be used in place of regular flour easily and without fuss, which is of course always the goal of a good meal.  No fuss, no religion, no politics-  will at least give you a good start at the table.   🙂

We have made pizza crust, pie crust, rue, and of course bread.  My personal favorite is the pizza crust.  It came out so good, and it is healthier, so it’s great.  My husband has perfected it.  Its all about good flour, a real hot oven, and a pizza stone.   🙂
