Best Tips for Feeding Your Baby

The following is a guest post. The opinions are those of the author and do not  represent those of this website.

If you are here today, the chances are that this is the first time that you are dealing with a newborn. Or in simpler words, you are just about to become a parent for the first time and you are confused about particular things like feeding the baby, etc. Well, if that’s the case and if you really are worried then first we’ll ask you to stop panicking and stay easy and calm. Yes, you read that right! You don’t have to panic at all because it’s not that difficult. After all, everyone becomes a parent sooner or later in his life, so think about it? If it was that difficult, would everyone have babies?

Now, coming back to the topic of today, if you want to know how to feed your baby or if you are looking for some tips to feed a newborn then you are at the right place, reading the right article. Today we are going to jot down some of the best tips and suggestions from the pro moms who have been excellent when it comes to dealing with a newborn.

1- Stick With Breast Milk

You don’t use any fluids other than breast milk or infant formula when it comes to newborns. Especially if you want your baby to be healthy and strong, then the wiser thing to do is to stick with breast milk. A lot of mothers out there use infant formulas to feed their babies which isn’t wrong, but if you have the breast milk and if there’s no problem with it then this should be your first priority. Infant formulas don’t have the nutrition and vitamins etc that your little one needs and this is something every doctor will tell you too.

2- Feed Your Little One On Cue

Babies are unpredictable! We repeat, they are unpredictable and their hunger cycles too. So, you need to be very very careful with that. Look for cues when you want to know whether your little one is hungry or not. Usually, newborns take 12 to 14 feeds every single day after two to three hours. If your baby is a little cranky one, he will probably start crying right away when he is  hungry but if he doesn’t cry, he will start giving away cues like sucking his toes, closing his mouth, moving the hands to the mouth and of course fussing and crying are the most obvious signs that he is hungry.

3- Vitamin D Supplements

This is something you need to ask your baby’s doctor. Ask if you can give the baby Vitamin D supplements because sometimes, the Vitamin D in a mother’s breast milk isn’t sufficient for the baby, which can be a problem. So, either ask the doctor to recommend you Vitamin D supplements or ask him/her if you can give these supplements to the baby.

4- Trust Your Instincts

It’s God’s gift to a mother that she can instantly know if there’s something wrong with the baby or his food or his feeding pattern. So, as a mother, you need to trust your instincts, and when you know something isn’t quite right for your baby, follow it and do as your heart says. You are supposed to have faith in your own-self before consulting any doctor or any other mother. Just believe in what you feel!

Conclusion

These are some of the best tips that can be useful for you for feeding your baby. Follow these tips, and we assure you that everything will fall into place for you and your little one. Just don’t panic, no matter what.

WIN Boudreaux’s Butt Paste With Natural Aloe

This weather is great for the beach and for barbecues, but it can wreak havoc on skin. If you have a baby, you know that their skin is extra sensitive year round, so it’s no surprise that hot and steamy weather might bother baby a little more then usual.

Of course, keep baby cool, change diapers often and keep them fresh, and at the first sign of a rash or irritation, try a nice cooling balm to help sooth the skin. We are fans of Boudreaux’s Butt Paste, and they now have a new variety to try out.

Just in time for the warm weather, one of your favorite and most trusted baby care brands, Boudreaux’s Butt Paste is adding Aloe to it’s ingredients. With the beginning of Summer has launched the new Boudreaux’s Butt Paste with Natural Aloe. When tough diaper rash appears, give Boudreaux’s Butt Paste With Natural Aloe a try – a solution with plant-based ingredients for getting rid of rashes in a rush. Built For Your Growing Family

Thinking about adding on to your family? That can be a fun, even if somewhat stressful time. Trying to choose what essential everyday items you will need for your growing brood can be difficult, as you need to think about cost, size, durability, safety, ease of use, and more. We are hoping to help you with some of our favorites, as well why we like them and think you will find them useful.

One of the first and most important things to decide on is a car seat. Once your baby outgrows his or her carrier “snap and go” type car seat, the DualFit Harness-2-Booster seat by Britax is a good choice that is both safe and less expensive then some. It easily transitions from a three point harness seat to a booster that is best for older and larger children. As your child grows, the seat will grow with them.

Designed to fit children from 25 pounds to 65 lbs in harness mode, then in booster mode for children up to 100 lbs. Britax’s “patented system of safety components work together to transfer energy away from your child and 2 layers of Side Impact Protection shield your child in the event of a crash” (as per brand). It is easy to install, and has easy-on and easy off lower connectors that lock into place with a click and are released with the push of a button- however this mom always lets the fire station install with me the first time. It’s a service offered for free by many towns, and one I like to take advantage of to make sure I’m doing things right.

You can find this seat (as well as others) at https://us.britax.com for $169.99

Britax also makes the B-Lively Double stroller, which is a smooth, easy ride for two children. It has a lightweight aluminum frame (which is a necessity for packing up and getting into the car) as well as a quick fold. It takes storage seriously as well, knowing how much moms and dads have to lug about. With six storage pockets as well as a large under-storage basket, there is quite a lot of space for what you need to bring along. The stroller itself is easy to push, and not clumsy or cumbersome. No one likes to feel like a pack mule, or like they are taking up all the space in the aisle. It corners easily, and doesn’t “stick” on you, which is something I find ever annoying about larger strollers. Something else that makes the B-Lively Double Stroller extra handy is that it is compatible with your infant car seat should you need to do so. (*When paired with a infant car seat adapter kit, sold separately.) If your baby is still in a “snap and go” type seat, that makes it that much easier. It sells for $399.99 on https://us.britax.com

colic baby

It breaks every parent’s heart to see their child in pain, and a colicky baby will make you cry right along with him or her. Dr. Brown is looking to assist with this, by putting out a feeding and soothing system that will help calm baby.

The new DrBrown’s Natural Flow® Options+™ Anti-Colic Bottles have some pretty cool innovations.  There are enhanced internal vent system in the Options+™ Bottle, which is meant to improve the system that Dr. Browns has been using, and has made it #1 pediatrician recommended and #1 selling bottle in America. Both of the new bottles (available in wide or narrow neck styles) are designed to make feeding easy, and let baby go from breast to bottle and back as needed with no troubles. According to Dr. Brown, the breast like nipples on these bottles “provides a correctly contoured shape that’s flexible at the top and gradually firms, encouraging a proper latch and more natural bottle-feeding experience”. This helps baby go back and forth from breast to bottle as they (or mom’s supply) need to. Dr. Brown’s bottles are clinically proven to reduce colic, decreases spit-up, burping, and gas, better preserves nutrients in breast milk and formula, and aids in digestion for a better night’s sleep. When Can Baby Sleep on Tummy

Parents have to be careful about how they put an infant to sleep to avoid the SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). This is the reason till the baby grows up to a year old; they are made to sleep on their back. Until the baby grows beyond 4 months of age, there is always a risk of SIDS to the baby. After one year, the baby is strong enough to roll on the sides as well as sleep on their tummy. There are a few things to know as to when can baby sleep on tummy.

-Sleeping habits of infants

A newborn and an infant who is a few months old sleeps between 12 to 16 hours a day. They sleep in naps during the day time and could sleep longer during the night. It depends on how you have scheduled the sleep patterns for the baby. After the baby is 6 months old, the number of hours they sleep is lessened. They also stay awake in between and are active during those hours. When you place the baby on its back and let it remain in that sleep position, it is the safest way to ensure that they have a sound sleep and prevents all hazards of SIDS.

-Put them on a firm sheet

Choose a firm sleep surface for the baby to have a good sleep. They sleep for most of the day and night and are awake only for a few hours. Ensure that the sleep surface is not too soft or too hard. The mattress inside the crib must fit in properly. There must be no folds and keep away toys, pillows, and comforters away from the crib. You must also check for the temperature before putting your baby to sleep.

-Swaddling for fussy babies

Sometimes infants might want to sleep on their stomach and can get fussy about it. It is not recommended for the baby to sleep on its stomach until they are at least one year old. When the baby is fussy about sleeping on their stomach, you can try swaddling and get them used to sleeping on their back. If the baby is still fussy about sleep on its back, you can contact the healthcare provider to know the underlying reason and learn ways to let the baby sleep on its back.

-In older times babies slept on their stomach

A few generations before babies were made to sleep on their stomach. It is since a few decades that it has become a medical mandate to let the baby sleep on its back. A few babies find it comfortable to sleep on their stomach. This is not something to get worried about. Sometimes, it is hard to put the baby to sleep when you put it on the back, yet, this is still recommended. There is a lot of research that shows that babies who are allowed to sleep on their stomach reach milestones quickly.

-Theories about SIDS

There are many researchers who deny that stomach sleeping could be the cause of SIDS. There are many reasons why SIDS happens. It could be the toxins from the mattress, or safety measures ignored. Apart from back sleeping, a few parents prefer side sleeping of the infant as well. In all of the sleeping positions, back sleeping is considered to be the safest for the baby to sleep in.

-Disadvantages of sleeping on the stomach

When the baby sleeps on the stomach, the oxygen does not reach its lungs as the lungs are not fully developed to accommodate to that position. Lack of oxygen can lead to SIDS. When the baby sleeps on its back it can breathe better avoiding all fatalities of SIDS. As per the medical mandate, the body of the baby is not developed to inhale oxygen when it sleeps on the stomach, hence this sleeping position must be avoided up to one year of age.

-Monitor the baby’s movements

The babies could have the habit of rolling over on their stomach. You have to monitor this from happening and put the baby back into its position of lying down on the back. Use pacifiers and keep the temperature even so that the baby is comfortable sleeping on its back and does not roll over on its stomach. This article gives complete details about when can baby sleep on tummy.

Staying Healthy when Traveling Abroad with a Baby

family travel

When you have children and become a parent, you definitely don’t have to stop doing things that you did before. One of those things in particular is travel. There can be a bit of an idea that your wanderlust and travels has to stop when you’ve got a baby. But travel with children can be a really rewarding thing to do, as there are some amazing memories that you can make, as well as fun experiences that you can all do together. It isn’t always easy, and will be different to what you are used to, but it can most certainly be done.

One of the biggest stressors when traveling with a baby is that you want your baby to be healthy when you are away. The thought of having to visit a doctor or a hospital when you’re in a place that you don’t know, or where you don’t speak the language, can be stressful and not something that you want to do. So making sure that you are able to keep your baby well on your trip is such a good idea, to make sure that you can have the best trip possible. With all of that in mind, here are a few ideas and tips to help you be prepared and keep baby healthy and well when you travel.

See a Doctor Before You Go

If you are unsure about anything before you travel, then speaking to your doctor or pediatrician is a really good idea. It could be a good idea to talk about your travel plans, as well as checking on things like vaccinations, especially if your baby is young. Sites like this one could also help if you’re looking for information about vaccinations and travel with young children: https://www.fitfortravel.com/general-travel-health-advice/child-travellers. Your doctor might even give you some suggestions to keep your baby healthy as you go and travel.

Choose Flights Wisely

In order to keep your baby as healthy as possible, it is a really good idea to get flights that will fit in with their regular schedule and routine as much as possible. The logic behind this is that when your baby hasn’t had enough sleep, they can feel more run down and susceptible to germs, as well as just making them more unhappy. One day of sleep deprivation can impact their immune system, so it can be a small thing to do to make sure that you can reduce their risk of illness.

Take Your Own Products and Food

Depending on where you are going for your trip, it can be a good idea to take your own products, as well as food. If your baby is eating food, then having them keep eating foods that they are familiar with is a good idea. That can reduce the chance of them getting sickness, as well as something like being constipated. As for products, taking the usual things that you use for your baby, like wipes, shampoo, and any other medication is a really good idea. You don’t want to start using something that your baby isn’t used to as it could lead to something that you don’t want to deal with when away, like cradle cap. This site could be a good place to look if you need some advice on cradle cap, though: https://www.mustelausa.com/tips-for-preventing-and-treating-cradle-cap. Stick to what you (and the baby know) and then it can help to reduce your risk of getting sick.

Sun Safe

Staying safe in the sun is normal at home, but when you’re away, especially in a warm country abroad, then it can be something that is much more heightened. The sun can be much more intense and harmful when you’re in a hotter country. So as well as sunscreen, you need to think about keeping baby in the shade, keeping them cool, and avoiding things like blankets over a stroller that can make them overheat. Be sensible in a hot country and it will keep things much safer and healthier for you all.

Food Safety

Like packing your own food, there will be some things that you need to get from a store where you are. It could be fruit, vegetables, or somewhere that you choose to eat out at. But make sure that you are keeping food safe and only serving foods that you’re happy with. You should also check if you can drink the local tap water or if you need bottled water instead, and so on. Then you can reduce your risk of sickness.

My Thoughts:

This is one of the best seats that I have tried out. There are some concerns that I have found in some of the other similar seats on the market. I like that the leg hole on this one is a little bigger for bigger legs. I like that the back of it goes up higher than others so that you feel a little better about your little one sitting in them. I also like the most that the back seems to come around and hug them much better than any of the others that I’ve seen.
