South Georgia Zoos Offer a Walk on the Wild Side

What’s not to love about a day at the zoo? These four zoos in South Georgia offer great day trips with educational components for the kids- great if you are a local, or on vacation in the area.

The Oatland Island Wildlife Center of Savannah will provide your family with memorable experiences
that will last well beyond your trip. Striving to spark a lifelong love of nature and its inhabitants,
the Center lets your children experience any of the forty hands-on activities available to them, such
as marsh ecology boat tours, star programs, and guided tours—all with the goal of deepening their
understanding of the surrounding flora and fauna. Locals can even enroll their children in summer
day camp, which feature stories, crafts, up-close-and-personal observations, and hands-on scientific
experiments to help children experience and understand nature’s phenomena. Contact: (912) 395-1212;

At Pine Mountain’s Wild Animal Safari—Georgia’s drive-through animal park—you and the family
can go on safari from the comfort of your own vehicle, in a rented Zebra Van, or on the bus service
offered by the zoo and led by a tour guide. With a park [Read more…]

5 Great Family Winter Vacation Ideas

Winter is a great time to take advantage of the season and get your family into an environment that it’s never experienced before or doesn’t get to experience very often. Wintertime is a great opportunity to use some of those vacation days and spend your time snuggling up with those that are the most important to you as the days get colder and shorter at the same time. Vacation is a blast when you’re making the best of your cold temperatures, and we’ll talk about some of the best ideas for you and your family when you see that it’s starting to get colder out. It’s easier than you might have thought to get a great vacation out of the coldest time of the year!

1. The Cabin in the Woods. Perhaps the most classic winter vacation idea, you can always go with the good, old-fashioned cabin in the woods. There are plenty of locations that will make cabin rentals an easy reality when you and your family want to get out, and a low-tech vacation experience is a great way to bond with those to whom you’re closest. You can go as modern or as rustic as you want — your cabin can be equipped with modern amenities, or you can try and have a screen-free weekend with a deck of cards and a few good books. The possibilities are endless when you’ve got your very own cabin in the snow for a week or so.

2. New York City! The city that never sleeps is a blast during the winter, and the closer you go to Christmas, the more festive and interesting things have a tendency [Read more…]

CHIMPANZEE out on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD

Chimpanzee is an adorable Disney movie that follows the life of little Oscar, who early on gives filmmakers a run for their money when unforeseeable events occur. The outcome, while brought about by tragedy, is a touching experience and a film that your whole family you will enjoy.

I thought I would try something a little different with this movie review- [Read more…]

Inexpensive rainy day activities that keep kids interested

Children are teeming with energy, and it is ideal to let them play outside so
your house can stay clean. However, on rainy days that is not always an
option. You then need to find activities that will keep them interested without
breaking your budget. Here are some ideas that are very inexpensive and will
prevent you from hearing that familiar phrase, “Mom, I’m bored!”

1. Have Your Children Build A Fort

Children love to pretend play, and one great rainy day activity is building forts.
This activity is free and uses materials you have around the house. Set the
children up with blankets and sheets, let them move chairs around and watch
their creative juices flow! They will have a blast creating their fort and playing
house in their fort for hours.

2. Make a Batch Of Homemade Play Dough

There are many homemade recipes for play dough, and most can be made
with materials you have in your kitchen. Involve your children in stirring and
mixing the play dough as well. This will keep them [Read more…]

The Lorax- Now on DVD

The Lorax is a heart warming story by Dr. Seuss. In true Dr. Seuss fashion, the story is full of colorful creatures and characters- but this is not the best part of a Dr. Seuss story. The best part is always the ability to weave these incredible fanciful locations and ideas with more domestic thoughts and ideas. The theme of the Lorax is environmental protection.

The story follows Ted on his adventures to win over his girl, in the process of winning her over he meets the Lorax [Read more…]

Camelback Water Park

What started out as a very rainy day, turned into a sunny one (with no lines, since the weather kept all but the hardy from attempting to go, LOL) at CamelBeach Water Park. So what if it rained for a few hours? We were at a waterpark- going to get wet anyway, right? 😛

Check out the last water park of the season – Camelback Mountain Water Park. Camelback has got to be one of the best water parks in the area. For real- LOVED IT. My favorite by far in the area. They have over seven thrill rides, including a six story call triple slide, Triple Venom. There are also a plethora of family and little kid attractions including the 1,000 foot long lazy river ride, that is full of fun like waterfalls and geysers. But the absolute best attraction there has to be the Pharaoh’s Phortress with loads of splashing fun including a spilling bucket, slides and enough water cannons to soak your whole family.

My little guy went on everything- mommy was so proud of her brave little dude. He really enjoyed himself- this was one of the best days we had all summer. The [Read more…]
