Dining With Al Capone

The Kissimmee area has much to choose from when it comes to dining, but our favorite is dinner and a show. It’s a fun way to experience some local flavor, and who cares if it’s raining?

We ate at Capones Dinner and Show, an interactive experience that is cute for all ages. It was a whole lot of “kitch” and meant to be fun and silly. It reminded me of another restaurant chain’s slogan- “Delightfully tacky, yet unrefined”. It for sure fell under that category. One of the running gags of the evening was “Fork You!” while brandishing- you guessed it- a fork.

5 Top Family Activities in Turkey

It’s great to get away for a couple of weeks over the summer with the family, but while the
sun, sea and sand is often entertainment enough for the adults, it’s a good idea to have a
few child-friendly day trips in mind to keep everyone happy. Cheap flights to Turkey also
mean a family break doesn’t have to cost the earth. There are lots of attractions around the
towns of Antalya and Marmaris in the southwest of the country that the little ones will love,
and you might even find you’re enjoying a day out at one just as much.

Dinopark, Antalya
Jurassic Park fans will love this one. Europe’s biggest ‘dinopark’ is located in Antalya, on
the coastal road between Konyaalti and Kemer. It features life-sized animatronic dinosaurs,
including a big T-Rex head which can comfortably fit in 3 children for a photo opportunity.
There’s an option for budding palaeontologists to dig for fossils, and a water park there to
cool off in at the end of the day. Admission is free for children 6 years and under.

Minicity, Antalya
Admittedly, I am quite a fan of model villages, but this place really is great! An amazing
amount of detail has gone into creating miniature versions of some of the most iconic
Turkish buildings and monuments, including Istanbul’s fabulous Hagia Sophia and the
Dolmabahce Palace. It opens at 8am and everything is outside so it’s best to get there in the
morning before baking temperatures set in. Entry is just 5 Lira (under $3).

Atlantis Water Park, Marmaris

Medieval Times Dinner and Show

A feast for the eyes as well as the stomach, Medieval Times is a great show that the whole family can enjoy. No worries, the little ones won’t be afraid- the show is very tame (rated G!) while still offering tons of fun and action.

Make sure you arrive about an hour early to give yourself ample time to explore the Medieval Village, the only one in the country. Launched in Spain in 1973, and in Kissimmee, [Read more…]

If You Go Chasing Rabbits…

One pill makes you larger, the other makes you small. But finding this White Rabbit took no pills at all!

Yes, we did spend some time in Disney this week, and one of Little Man’s highlights was finding Alice in Wonderland’s White Rabbit. This was a momentous occasion for the little guy, he loves animals, and he enjoys “hugging” the characters more then riding the rides right now. (Yes, we even had to hunt down [Read more…]

Have Sippy- I’m Traveling! (In Central Florida)

Little Man in the fountain at Downtown Disney

Have Sippy is traveling this week, and I will be back on Friday. Don’t worry, I will have things for you in the meantime! We are headed down to Florida to visit some of our favorite haunts- and some new ones. I’m thrilled to go spend some time at the NASA Social, where I will learn about NASA’s Launch Services Program and how they match spacecraft with rockets, view the RBSP launch pad, meet space enthusiasts and members of NASA’s teams, and [Read more…]

Road Trip Tips for Traveling With Kids

Road trips are a great way for families to fit in some bonding time as they explore uncharted territory. Whether a person is traveling a route for the first time or has gone down the same road many times before, one never knows what lies in wait at the end of the road. Therefore, it is important to be prepared for anything. This is especially true when traveling with children.

While children generally start a road trip with excitement, if they become tired, cold or hungry, then their mood can quickly turn foul. The following list of items will help parents to stay prepared for anything so that they and their children can enjoy their road trip with no concerns:

Snack Pack

Small children often get hungry more quickly than adults. On road trips, it might not always be possible to stop in time to get something to eat. Many times, it is a long distance between fast food places and other restaurants. Therefore, parents should pack a few extra snacks that their children can easily eat in the car. Trail mix is a great option as well as dried fruit and nuts. Parents should be sure to include some juice boxes and water as well to keep children hydrated.

Meet Me at @SesamePlace #ThemePark

One of my son’s summer highlights has been his trip to Sesame Place in Buck’s County, PA. I grew up with Sesame Street, and as a teacher I love the educational, social, and cultural values it helps to instill. As a parent- I love it, too! There are versions of Sesame Street all over the world- from Russia to Mexico. Something about knowing that this sweet, educational show unites kids globally (literally) really touches me- and even more so now that I myself am a mom, teacher, and travel enthusiast. You can’t see the world until you go out and experience it- start young, and make a little global citizen. But I digress!

We had so much fun at the theme park, there are all sorts of fun rides- and for once, they are ALL aimed at little ones.

Do my feet match Big Bird’s?

One of Little Man’s favorite rides was the Flyin’ Fish, which had Elmo faced fish of all kinds- with a unique Sesame twist, of course. After all, what is a catfish without ears and whiskers? LOL Kids can press a button in the ride, and make it rise up and down as it spins (slowly).
