Earth Baby Sunscreen and Rubber Ducky Sunscreen – Great Options for the Great Outdoors

Spending the day at the beach? Maybe just outdoors. Spending any amount of time outside means you should likely be wearing at least some amount of sun protection.  It can be hard to find sunscreen that is safe for your little ones (not to mention the planet!) so I wanted to draw your attention to some recent discoveries.

We all know by now that using sunblock is one of the best and easiest ways to protect your skin from sunburn, cancer, premature aging, and quite a few other problems. From babyhood on up- don’t forget the sunscreen.

According to Johns Hopkins, you should use it daily. For your “day-to-day use, pick a sunscreen with sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. If you spend time outdoors, choose a product with SPF 60 or greater. In reality, most people do not use as much sunscreen as they should, and this higher SPF helps compensate. To protect your face, neck, arms and legs, you’ll need about 1 ounce of sunscreen. Squeezed into your hand, 1 ounce of sunscreen is enough to completely cover your palm. So long as the sunscreen is at least SPF 30, water-resistant, broad-spectrum and applied about 15 minutes before going outside, it doesn’t matter in what order you apply your skincare products. Some people find it’s easiest to work with bare skin — before makeup or moisturizer have been added. Find what works best for your routine.”

Of course, always speak to a dermatologist or other doctor for best advice- I’m just passing on general information.

cruelty free sunblock
Price: $8.99 +
When adventuring outside, number one thing is to have sunscreen on. Rubber Ducky, whose motto is “just like water off of a duck’s back” has been cruelty-free since 1984 and chemical-free since 2013. The sunscreen, which is formulated and made in the USA, is eight hours water resistant—you can actually see the water bead up and not soak in. It also won’t “sweat” in the eyes, freeing you from irritation and making it perfect for hiking in the sun.
  • Oil Free, Oxybenzone/Octinoxate free, Paraben Free,  Gluten Free, Non-GMO
  • Clear Application
  • Stays on in Water
  • TSA – OK to Fly

The sunblock is a brownish color, though it applies clear and with no tint. It smells differently then most do- a king of patchouli scent or something like that. It’s not your typical coconut, or “sunscreen” smell.  It was a bit surprising, but my husband especially liked the smell of Rubber Ducky. He used it before taking the dog out on her “doggy splash day” and fun run at a local  waterpark, and he didn’t burn at all by the end of the day, so that’s a decent endorsement. It stayed on through sweat and water spraying/splashing, and he didn’t need to reapply.

Earth Mama Organics NEW Mineral Sunscreen

Just what you have been looking for – a new mineral sunscreen family from Earth Mama Organics – 6 products – thoughtfully created for adults, kids, and babies. These are made with the most premium and safest ingredients available – they are reef-friendly and non-nano as well, which means that they won’t be harmful when worn into fragile ecosystems. (So much better for the environment, I can’t imagine why all brands aren’t doing it at this point.)

organic sunscreen

What’s IN these sunscreens is just as important as what’s NOT. If an ingredient is available organic, that is what gets used.

Each ingredient is purposefully sourced with great consideration — to boost the sunscreen’s SPF value, moisturize, or ensure it’s safely gentle on uber-sensitive skin.

What’s not in them? Chemicals that are potentially harmful to people, coral reefs or the planet like:Oxybenzone, octinoxate (or other chemical sunscreens), artificial fragrance, nano particles, or parabens. These are better for you, the fish, other animals, and the environment as a whole- there is no good reason NOT to use these.

The first thing you think when you hear “mineral sunscreen” is pasty white, right? Not these.  Earth Mama sunscreens – just visible enough to see the spots you missed during application, which is always helpful with kids who won’t stay still, or to make sure that you actually remembered to do your arms.

Getting Ready For Summer with Babyganics

Did you know that May is skin-cancer awareness month? I think it’s perfect timing since summer is here and everyone is spending every moment outside.  Skin cancer is something that I honestly never really thought about until the past  few years. I have naturally tanned skin and dark hair so when it comes to sun burns I never really worried much. My husband; however, is pale skinned with red hair. It’s the complete opposite for him. Even if he is outside for an hour he has to have sunblock on or he will come in looking like a tomato. Having four kids, half of whom have inherited my dark hair, but a lighter skin complication like my husband, has made me more aware of skin cancer and of making sure their skin is protected from all outside elements. Babyganics has every product that I need to make sure they are protected from the summer elements, and can continue to have fun! This post is a sponsored post, but all opinions, stories, and my experience are all personal and true (like always)!

My Thoughts:

A family pass to the city pool is only $50, and for a family of six this is a great deal. I plan to spend a lot of time at the pool with the kids this summer. It’s fun, away from technology, great family time, and budget friendly. Their diapers have to be my favorite swim diapers. They went on easy, didn’t swell up, kept him and the pool protected while we were swimming.

Having a good sunscreen that isn’t harsh on their skin is important to me, so when I was given a chance to try babyganics I was excited. These products are awesome. They do not have that greasy feel that some do and they go on smooth. The sunscreen left my little ones’ skin feeling soft with a pleasant scent.  The sunscreen is bottled in many ways that make it easy for me to get it on the kids. I loved the stick for my littlest, the spray for my youngest daughter, and the lotion for my older two. The various forms of these great products allowed for the quickest and easiest way to apply based on the needs of my children. I reapplied after two hours of being at the pool and all four of my kids walked away with zero sunburn.

Lastly but not least, their insect repellent is a must have! We like  to swim until we physically can no longer swim and bugs can be an issue sometimes. Most repellents have a smell that can be harsh alone.  This is not the case; however, with babyganics.  Oh, and I must mention again the pleasant scent!

Overall, I love that Babyganics products are organic and safe for my little ones. Most of my kids have sensitive skin and some products tend to break them out. Babyganics did not break them out,  protected their skin, kept them safe, and all products were easy to use.  This mommy has found a winning line of products to protect my little ones and I highly recommend all mommies to use Babyganics too!
