DownLinens has recently given me the opportunity to test drive their pillows, but with this came an important decision. What kind of pillow to get?

Upon initial searching, the options seem endless. But with a little homework and some consumer education, the options are quite easy to wade through. Let’s take a look at a few common differences in pillows. One of the biggest characteristics is the fill of the pillow. This is the material which is used to make the pillow more comfortable for the sleeper. The big categories are: down, feather and synthetic. Down is made of soft light feathers. Feather fill is a more firm and heavier type of feather. Synthetic fill can cover the whole gamete of firmness from down soft to foam firm. Firmness is measured in fill power. This fill power is either soft and gives in easily to pressure and conforms to the sleeper to firm which gives little and supports the sleeper through tosses and turns. A soft pillow is classically used to sleep on while a firm pillow is used for propping oneself up or for support. A person who reads or watches TV in bed would probably want a nice firm pillow.

The next characteristic of pillows is the fluffiness of the pillow. This is the ability of the pillow to bring in fresh air. The quicker the air intake the better the pillow. The fluffiness is an indicator of a need for a new pillow. To test this in your current pillow, try folding your pillow in half and see how long it takes for it to unfold and be its original pillow shape. For more info on pillow fluffiness and a chart, check out DownLinens.

We decided on the Down pillow because soft and fluffy is so nice in a pillow. A personal preference is to have two pillows on the bed for each sleeper. One fluffy and one firm. Some nights are soft nights others firm. The Down pillow in incredibly soft and feels like resting on a cloud. I love soft pillows, and the husband likes firm and very thin pillows. WE are quite the opposites. lol. This looks like a great pillow for me.
