yardWhen the summer heat or the winter chill takes its toll, sometimes it is just nice to stay in and be with yourself or the family. Vacations are the perfect time to get that much-needed rest and relaxation, and while many people are choosing to travel, there are a lot of perks to staying home and having a ‘staycation’. All you need is good heating and air conditioning, good company, and fun activities. Here are some of our recommendations to maximize your staycation:

See a movie

Stocking up on good movies is the perfect way to enjoy your staycation. Prepare a list of movies you haven’t seen because of your busy schedule and spend your staycation catching up. A lot of people talk about movies and seeing the latest Hollywood blockbusters will not make you feel left out the next time you see your friends.

Host a small gathering

Invite a few friends for a meal. Have a barbecue if the sun is feeling strong, or whip up a batch of hot chocolate if it is cold. Inviting friends over is a good idea if you have not seen each other in a while because of work commitments. Catch up on what you missed or talk about your mutual interests. You can follow this with a movie marathon or a sleep over.

Read a book

Most movies these days are based on successful novels. Take the time to read the original version, or pick up a book that you have been dying to read. Reading is a great way to be transported to another world while in the comfort of your own home. Reading a popular book gives you the chance to discuss it with friends or family and compare thoughts.

Do exercise

If you are a busy person, the chances are you don’t have much time to exercise. You can use your staycation to catch up on your workout and move your muscles. This is especially important for desk workers who spend their days sitting and emailing for hours at a time. Do a simple yoga routine, or if you have equipment, a full workout. Household tasks also count as exercise. You can clean the floors, the windows, or do gardening. Exercise is invigorating, and will give you more energy to maximize your staycation.

Spend time with the family

Staycation time can be spent with the family, especially those with parents who are always working. Spend it bonding with the kids. Play games, make breakfast together, or simply have a special meal. It can do wonders for family dynamics and the soul.

These are just some suggestions for a fun staycation. Of course, your itinerary will depend on your interests and your time. In fact, you can even go out of the house for your staycation. Try something new and check out the local scene. The only thing you have to do is disconnect your phone and your laptop, so that you can truly connect with your family, friends, and most importantly, yourself.
